Hi guys- I am wondering why there are two 1500m's? There's 1500(1) and 1500 (2). Why...? And Lori, I'll try to contact you tmrw!!! gdbaby77 - I believe it's because they have more races they are supposed to compete in any given year than they have competitions for. So every competition, they do a double - this time out, it's the 1500m, next competition it might be the 500m they have two of...and so on. By the end of the competitive year, they will have completed all they were supposed to. Skaters rack up points for each competition. Whoever ends up with the most points at the end of the season becomes ST master of the universe...or something to that effect. (OK, Actually, they become the WC champion for the season.) Wildfire - my plane gets in at 7pm. If the plane is on time, I sprint out of the rental car place quickly, traffic is light (and the competition goes longer than 9pm) I might get to see some of the final events. ;D

Thanks for the updates everyone. What time do we 'watch' on Saturday? Repechages start at 11:50 (Mountain Time) tomorrow, and the Medal Rounds start at 6:02 (Mountain time) Wildfire, thanks for posting the results from each round - that's a bunch of cutting/pasting that I can cross off my list! Sk8er, PEN has pretty much the same consequential effect as DQ - they just have a new name for it now, and there are different criteria for calling it. To sum up how our skater did: In the 1500M(1), Emily Scott, Jessica Smith, Katheriine Reutter and Kyle Carr advance - Jonathan Garcia and John-Henry Krueger go to the Repechage round. In the 1000M, Alyson Dudek, Lana Gehring, Kyle Uyehara and J.R. Celski advance - Sarah Chen and Jordan Malone go to the Repechage round. In the 500M, Jessica Smith, Alyson Dudek, Kyle Uyehara and John-Henry Krueger advance - Sarah Chen and Jonathan Garcia go to the Repechage round. In the 1500M(2), Katherine Reutter, Emily Scott, Lana Gehring, J.R. Celski, Jordan Malone and Kyle Carr advance (i.e., ALL 6 of our skaters)! Relays - both teams advanced! ---------------------- A note on our youngest skaters: SARAH CHEN finished 4th in a blazing fast heat in the 1000M - she skated a PERSONAL BEST, but still didn’t advance. JOHN-HENRY KRUEGER did not advance, but finished third and battled the entire way. He was passing or trying to pass for that second-place slot for most of the last few laps! Both of them participated in the Relay Quarterfinals, helping the men's and the ladies' teams to advance - good job!

Hi guys- I am wondering why there are two 1500m's? There's 1500(1) and 1500 (2). Why...? As far as I know, You can think of it as a welfare. It may let players participate in more races. In addition, the double is selected by the host country in the every station. The host country can choose a double from 500m, 1000m or 1500m. In other words, usually the host country will choose the outstanding project of their players. It is also hoped that their athletes have good performance as the host country.

The ISU Live Stream have three countries can't watch. But it is said, Chinese CNTV will Live the races too. Unfortunately, Chinese player Zhou Yang withdrew from the races due to she injured. In 1500m(2), she collided with Italian player. The doctor diagnosed the foot contusion and she will can't participate in the behind races. It is reported that Zhou Yang will soon return home early.

Thank you, dose, for all of the nice pictures from yesterday's skating! The reason they race a distance twice (in this case, the 1500M), is because they race each distance 8 times per season, but there are only 6 World Cups - so each distance is raced twice in 2 different World Cups in order to make that happen. ISU Communication 1683, Section 3 (Distances) states which distances are raced twice in each World Cup. This year it goes like this: World Cup 1 - 1500M World Cup 2 - 500M World Cup 3 - 1000M World Cup 4 - 500M World Cup 5 - 1500M World Cup 6 - 1000M

Yes, Lori. If it is a wrong, I really very sorry. But the host country may choose the project, it is that I heard short track knowledge from TV. It is a interview from short track team. Unless it was wrong. But you see, Basically every double all is the outstanding project of host. Maybe they have the priority, but first-come first-served basis. If I have time, I will carefully read the rules.

Today's Repechage Round is over. There's a different format for the Rep's this year - not only are they limiting the number of skaters who are eligible (40), but they are eliminating Rep. Finals. Instead of advancing the top 2 in the Final, they are advancing the WINNERS of the 2 Semifinals. This Rep. round can be quite exhausting for the skaters, and the elimination of the Final means one less race that they have to skate! Also, the winner-take-all Semifinals round really made things exciting for the spectators. There seemed to be quite a few penalties - some went in our favor, others - not so much. Our 'teens did well - John-Henry Krueger won his 1500M race. Sarah Chen finished second in the 1000M, but advanced on a PEN by winner Bianca Walter (GER). Jonathan Garcia was in a pretty physical 1500M semifinal, finishing second to the Russian skater. There was a LONG delay as the referees reviewed the race. I saw one of them pull out a yellow card and have a discussion with the Russian coach - so we were hoping that Jonathan would advance, as Sarah did. The Russian skater received a yellow card, but Jonathan also received a penalty for impeding , and will not advance. Jordan Malone finished third in his 1000M semifinal, and will not advance. ---------------------- The 'big gun' cameras have arrived, and we started seeing video on the big screen during the last few races - so it appears that ISU is testing their feed for tonight's races! Racing starts again at 6pm - test your links, get your popcorn, and have an awesome time tonight!
