Rachel just missed 2nd place, and will not advance. Lexi held 2nd place for quite awhile, and in the last few laps she went back and forth with Xiao (CHN). She had 2nd place in the final turn, but Xiao caught her at the finish line. Lexi is 3rd and will not advance. Katy was 2nd, and qualified easily! Zamboni break - racing starts again at :20 past the hour Coming up: Men's 500M Prelims Heat 5: James Rodowsky Heat 6: John-Henry Krueger Heat 7: Cole Krueger Top 2 per heat will advance

James & John-Henry were both 2nd in their heats - well ahead of the 3rd-place skaters, and qualified easily. Cole WINS his heat! A couple of skaters fell behind him, but I think they just fell on their own, and I don't see any PEN's coming.

Yay, Tommy (ITA) advances!
Mannn... that starter seems to be calling the most imperceptible movement on the line - I'm not seeing it at all!

James came out strong, then fell back a bit. He was still in the hunt, but then he had a slip, and wasn't able to recover. He finished third, and will not advance.
In the next heat, Korean Lee Hyo Been fell and did not finish. He appeared to have hurt his ankle/leg. He left the ice under his own power, but was immediately attended to by medical personnel.
Zamboni break until :30 past the hour
Next up for USA: Katy Ralston in the 500M Quarterfinals - top 2 advance.

In semifinal action, Elena Viviani (ITA) led Heat 1, wire-to-wire. Martina Valcepina (ITA) appeared to dominate Heat 2, but was passed in the last lap by Xiao Han (CHN) - both advanced. Heat 3 was all Cheong Hee Jung (KOR - the competition leader) In Heat 4, Katy Ralston was last off the start, and wasn't able to recover. She fell in one of the final laps, finished 4th, and will not advance.

And now for the men: John-Henry was in the heat with the competition leader, Seo Yi Ra (KOR). John-Henry was 4th off the start, and finished in that same position - he does not advance. This means that all of the USA skaters are out of the 500M - however, both the ladies and the men are still in the hunt for the relay semifinals, coming up later... Zamboni break till :05 past the hour.

Martina Valcepina (ITA) won the 500M for the ladies, and China had a 1-2 for the men. I dozed off and missed a double-penalty in the Men's final, but the Korean skater and GBR's Jack Whelbourne were both penalized - did anybody see what happened?
Relay semifinals are starting now - our USA ladies are in the second heat, and the men are in Heat 1.

Well, both the Ladies and the Men are out of the relays for the USA. Both teams finished 4th. The Ladies appeared to fade back early and were never able to catch up. The men were challenging for 2nd place midway through the race, but had a fall. Check the RMU blog later - I'm sure they'll have a new entry that will give some insight: rmuspeedskating.wordpress.com/Racing will start again tomorrow at 11:30am local time - that will be 5:30am Eastern, 2:30am Pacific (Sunday morning).

It was said that Korean had 2 false starts, he was ejected outside. WHELBOURNE Jack although the first punched line, but he fouled in the race, he got a PEN. But according to news, SEO Yi Ra and WHELBOURNE Jack collided to all fall when they exceed.
