Yes, I saw this on Facebook today!
I'm really excited to see it, lots of people I know or am very familiar with are in it! Surely there's some way for you to see it - I'll ask around. In the meantime, maybe someone reading this will know...

If you read the story below the video, the rabbit really did get hurt (rolled his ankle), and the bear was the only one who realized it - everyone else thought it was part of the skit!

To quote Laugh In: Veeedddy Interesting...Recent article published this last December on some coming opportunities for speed skaters, past and present. As AAO has mentioned previously how it would be great to have events like this (and he has been in Asia extensively for 'business') I'd wager (*hehehe, pun intended) that he might be working on this behind the scenes. Icederby International launches skating derbies in U.S., Russia
A Korean theme park development company is launching speed skating derbies in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Vladivostok, Russia, in the second half of next year.
Icederby International Co. said Monday that it secured $500 million from Dar Al Salam Holding Group of Saudi Arabia and Royal Capital FZE of the United Arab Emirates to push the derby project there.
The project includes an ice derby ― a professional speed skating race where people can bet on the outcome ― as well as sports entertainment including figure skating and ice shows.Read the rest of the article here: www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20130729000838At any rate, I'd welcome ANYTHING that would put some much needed cash in the hands of the skaters. AND expand the interest of short track speedskating in the country. I'd also welcome anything that brought business to the Reno/Lake Tahoe Basin. Note to the powers that be; there is a much neglected, Olympic sized ice rink sitting vacant even as we speak at Squaw Valley. Note the close proximity to Reno, Nevada...gambling events anyone? Note this article: www.travelandleisure.com/articles/lake-tahoe-ski-vacation-2-point-0While Northstar, Heavenly and Kirkwood were bought by Vail (who actually knows a thing or two about ski areas), Squaw and Alpine were bought by a private equity firm KSL Capital Partners in 2010, whose focus are resort spas. They know NOTHING about ice rinks. (and some would argue they know nothing about running a ski area either...) What this article doesn't go into is that KSL plans to redevelop Squaw Valley with a plethora of more condos and expanded parking...the parking NOT in a building complex, because they're apparently too cheap a$$ when it comes to that. Therefor, their new expansion plans have inspired heated ire from the local population for its impact on the environment and limited resources. Nobody wants to see more asphalt covering this beautiful valley, especially when it is so completely unnecessary to do so. Water supply and traffic are also an issue. Those plans ALSO include tearing down the rink at high camp (at 8200 feet) and putting in yet another tiny outdoor piddle pond, seasonal ice rink for tourists to slide around on their ankles on. Thus repeating the same mistakes they made at high camp. Also note that we've already got a plethora of these useless rinks here already. (There was more 'snow' on the ice rink at Northstar than they've got on their mountain.) These ice rinks have never seen even the hint of a Zamboni...ever. Completely useless for any purpose that would actually make the rinks profitable. *sigh* Somebody talk to these people... please!www.kslcapital.com/contact-us.htmlTags: Squaw Valley, KSL Capital Partners, Short Track Speedskating, Ice Derby International Co., Lake Tahoe, Reno Nevada.

Very nice article - though I can appreciate the amazing technological changes over the decades, I can't help but bristle a bit as the author mentions the 'lavishly subsidized' skaters of today : These days the top-level national skaters are financially supported, their training and living expenses lavishly subsidized.
Yeah, the Wursters had a sponsor, too: their dad.Well, the Dad-As-Sponsor part hasn't changed all that much, eh?

I heard today that Level 5 Official Brian Westover passed away last Thursday of a blood clot after cancer surgery. He worked at World Championships just prior to his surgery. I know the name well, but couldn't put a face to the name until I found one of Jerry Search's photos from back in 2007 - and yes, I remember him. I'm sure many of us have seen him around the rink at various events. Prayers of comfort for his family and closest friends - I hear he was a selfless, tireless volunteer and advocate for the sport. www.nationalspeedskatingmuseum.org/Photo%20Albums/2007AmericanCup1-Midland/Saturday/Img_0504.jpg

Hmmmmmm... The USS Spring Meeting is next month in Milwaukee. Members have been given ballots to vote for the Board of Directors. BUT... Out of 4 positions to be filled, 3 of them have only 1 person on the ballot - the other has only 2. And guess what? There's only ONE position for which a General Member is allowed to vote, and the person in that category is unopposed. Were there really only 5 people who were nominated and expressed an interest in serving? Or am I just totally misunderstanding what these 'categories' are? ------ As for the meeting itself - perusing the schedule of events, it appears that the only goings-on that welcome the General Membership are the cocktail hour, presentation of the new BOD, Hall of Fame Induction and USS' equivalent of a 'State of the Union address'. Virtually nothing that would invite debate on 'hot topics' (such as Safe Sport) among members is open to them - everything of any significance is 'closed'! As I looked back at the schedule to double-check it, I noticed that it has - disappeared!... A change of heart, maybe? Or has the schedule of events gone the way of the meetings themselves - deemed too 'risky' for transparency? I've never been to a board meeting - is this normal? I'm pretty sure that as a non-profit, they have to have at least one meeting per year that is open to General Members - does this meet that requirement? Is there some provision during the meeting for General Members to raise their concerns and ask their questions?

Define Normal, Lori....
It's spring time and it's business as usual with USS. Their constitution and bylaws are a COMPLETE FARCE because the people that have been PLANT-ED at USS, just turn a blind eye. Shame on each and everyone of YOU -- who are on the paid-staff column side of the accounting ledger at USS. So much for a transparent program and honest leadership. If I were a skater I would defect to the nearest country who would offer me dual citizenship. AHN is setting the standard once again.
Regarding the spring BOD. It'll cost you $40 bucks to attend the meeting. Attend, not speak, I would assume. The USS peeps would freak out if they were asked a question that wasn't a part of the "talking points." So be prepared to do CPR if you want to ask a tough question! But then again if one of those board members did have a stroke, please don't revive them. Just send them home, and scratch them off the BOD list as "unavailable" to serve.

Years ago (around 2003 or 2004)I went with other Ohnozone fans to a spring board meeting in Southern California. We were allowed to attend the individual sessions. I recall attending the Coaching Committee session but the financial stuff was not open to us. Gabel gave the fans over an hour of one on one to hear us complain about safety. I think that our continued criticism and subsequent problems "soured" USS on allowing "outsiders" into the inner workings. When the fans first appeared the USS people were pretty open and welcoming. That said, "the facts mam, just the facts" didn't go away and we continued to criticize and ask questions.

ICE DERBY NEWS: The first Ice Derby event will be held in Dubai in October 2014 before World Cups get underway. Now one might think ISU could forbid the LT & ST skaters from participating, but as it stands today, NO they cannot. So if you have some extra change, you might check into a flight to Dubai.
For right now, this event will not be televised.
