This thread will be used for discussion and trip-planning for U.S. Short Track Championships - Salt Lake City, UT (January 6-8, 2012).
Discuss any topics related to this event - trip-planning, pre-competition, post-competition, and 'Game Day' chat!
Before making travel arrangements, double-check with USS and ISU official schedules.
For those who are planning to attend the event, pertinent information gathered here - as it becomes available - will be summarized IN THIS ORIGINAL POST (scroll down) for quick-reference.
Please share any info that will be of help those who will be attending the event and/or following along online!-------------------------------------------- KNOWN INFO:MEDIA LINKS; TV COVERAGE; WEBCASTS, LIVE FAN CHAT, ETC.:Tony Chung has said he's hoping to broadcast a Live Stream, so if all the 'tech' necessities work out for him at the rink, we can follow along on the following links: www.ustream.tv/channel/USSTChamps2012It's showing the Canadian World Cup selections now, 'cause that's the last competition he broadcasted - but it'll change if/when he goes online for AmCup1.[/img] There will generally be an online chat going on at the same time - at the same link - which you'll need to register for in order to participate... He often Tweets results in addition to the ustream chat, but it seems that most of the action lately has been on the ustream chat - in any case, here's his Twitter link: twitter.com/#!/shorttrackhd As always, we'll be chatting here at BB too! We'll be using this US Championships thread - it's always more fun though, when a rink 'operative' like Tony, USS, ISU, Chinese TV, etc., gives us some Live Info that we can chat about! Keep your fingers crossed! I'm attending the event, and will catch everyone up when I get back to my hotel room each evening! In years past, many of you have not been able to attend US Championships because it has been scheduled very close to Christmas. The expense of travel during the holiday season, combined with increased family obligations made it very difficult - especially for those of us who must travel in order to attend. The scheduling of the event during January is something we've long been hoping for, and now it's happened! Because our goal here at BB is to ‘grow the sport’, I applaude the decision to move (at least) a week away from the holidays - it’s much more fan-friendly. I’m sure that many things factored into USS’ decision, and hopefully the cultivation of spectators for the sport was one of them. To show my support, I sent a short note to USS Executive Director Mark Greenwald to give my thanks for the date change. If you feel the same way, please let USS know! You can send a note to Mark via the following path: www.USSpeedskating.org > About USS > Organization > Staff, and click his name. Just a suggestion to make it more effective for our cause: In this particular note, keep it short, to the point, and don’t ask anything that will require a reply from Mark. The idea is simply to thank USS for this new time frame in the hope that it will ‘stick’. Thanks!

So happy the date is changed to January! I'll get to combine short track and skiing! I'll try out my new ski jacket that didn't get used much in warm Vancouver during the first week of the Olympics! LOL

Lori - just checked for a link for you, but it's not showing start times as of yet... only practices. I'm hoping by the weekend they'll have the full schedule up?!?! If I see anything I'll try to post it! To those attending ... the weather is looking good for next week/end! SLC has been cooler and drier than normal so far, and it's supposed to continue. Does anyone know about ticket info?? I contacted the Oval but haven't heard anything yet... Thanks, wildfire - I'm planning to drive, so the good weather is welcome news! As for ticket prices, I haven't found anything either - but I have to admit, I haven't really dug too deep. If anybody knows anything, please let us know!

Only 2 hours left 'till the registration deadline. There are still only 15 ladies signed up - with a Top 16 cutoff, they're all looking pretty good right now! ;D It'll be a dogfight for the men, however - 26 good skaters thus far, 16 positions in the Main Event.... I've checked several times today, and J.R. Celski was the only one of the Fall World Cup men who hadn't yet signed up - but he did sign up about an hour ago! In other positive news, Simon Cho has also signed up! Wishing them both 'good vibes' as they compete after injury...

Hey, y'all - I'm in Salt Lake City! It looks like racing warmups start all 3 days at 9am - this thread will be open for member and guest chat, and we hope you'll check in & give your impressions about the races. You'll also want to follow Tony Chung's Live Stream... www.ustream.tv/channel/USSTChamps2012...his Twitter: twitter.com/shorttrackhd...and USS Twitter/Facebook: twitter.com/USSpeedskatingwww.facebook.com/USSpeedskatingIf you see things on Tony's stream/chat that might help to explain things for the benefit of those who can't follow it live, please post it here, because his chat & feed are gone when the event is over! I'll take notes during the competition and catch up with everyone here each evening (after dinner and time with the posse)!
