Apolo has really made himself into a confident speaker. He would be an excellent addition to the regular sports commentators....but please lose the hairdo! Grow some hair on the sides, lose the brylcreem on top that makes clumping streaks. This do makes the face look rounder and the mouth too big. Sorry, if you are a public persona the details are important. If you saw Benedict Cumberbatch with and without his makeup in the interview Sunday night (The Making of Sherlock Holmes) the change is striking. Apolo has that golden skin and hazel eyes, the hair should match. Ladies, can we have a little blogging trivia here?

Not particularly flattering ---on an otherwise attractive face. Apolo. Step AWAY from the scissors...

Many of us who have been following the sport over the past 4 years think we definitely have skaters who could fill that void - maybe not with the longevity and record-breaking success as Apolo (3 Olympics & 8 medals), but stars who will shine at THIS Olympics. This was a 'prologue' to Apolo's Olympic Trials coverage - and I think Apolo did a great job! When I got home from Trials I watched the NBC coverage on my DVR with friends and family who don't follow ST. They were firing many questions at me about the sport and the various skaters - and it seemed that Apolo and his co-host addressed every one of those questions at some point in the broadcast. I think his commentary will give a great tutorial for new fans during the Olympics. I can't think of the name of his co-host, but for a guy who usually covers golf, he seemed to have done his homework! Apolo Anton Ohno’s absence leaves a void in short trackBy Paul Newberry / Associated Press / January 4, 2014 Short-track speedskating misses the charisma of retired Apolo Anton Ohno, the superstar from Seattle who won eight Olympic medals. KEARNS, Utah – Apolo Anton Ohno is strolling around the Utah Olympic Oval, snappily dressed in a black sport coat and slacks, having traded his skates for a microphone. The 31-year-old from Seattle eagerly poses for pictures and enthusiastically chats up anyone who is willing to listen to his message: Short-track speedskating is a thrilling sport worthy of your attention. “I love it,” Ohno said. “It’s fun to watch.” Read it all: seattletimes.com/html/othersports/2022599777_ohno05xml.html#.UuFd0SQ-dY8.facebook

Interesting article on Louis Vito that mentions Apolo's influence on how he approached his training for this Olympics with John Shaeffer. Sadly, Louis did not make this Olympic Team. Still a good read though. Former Olympian Louie Vito looks ahead to X GamesSaturday January 25, 2014 6:58 PM By Brian T. Dessart "After the 2010 Olympics is when my life changed," said Vito, who's won four of the last five U.S. Grand Prix overall championships, five X Games medals and two Winter Dew Tour Cup overall championships.
"My sport is based on how healthy you can stay and [not drinking] can be the difference between a broken bone or sprain. I don't miss it and I feel good. I can sacrifice [my 20s]."
Vito's life-changing experience began during a final taping of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" in a meeting between castmate Apolo Ohno -- America's most decorated Winter Olympic athlete of all-time -- and Ohno's personal trainer John Schaeffer, a former five-time world powerlifting and super heavyweight kickboxing champion.
"He told me, 'I need four to six weeks from you, and I'm going to take your body to a place it has never been ... and back,'" Vito recalled Schaeffer telling him. As for Ohno, Vito continued, "There's something you can take from each elite athlete you meet. I wanted to be in shape like Apolo Ohno."Read the rest here: www.newsday.com/news/health/the-daily-apple-1.4760551/former-olympian-louie-vito-looks-ahead-to-x-games-1.6877145
