If I'm doing my math right, the competition should start at 8:35pm (Thursday) Eastern time, 5:35pm Pacific. That's about 3 hours from now! I'm traveling right now, and it'll start at 2:35am where I am, so I might not be able to follow along with y'all this time. I'll catch up whenever time and my unreliable internet connection allows. Please feel free to post your comments on this thread as the event progresses! The exact link for the competition is: www.sportresult.com/federations/ISU/ShortTrack/When you see the red 'LIVE' button in the menu, click it for lap-by-lap results - or click any 'Official' round from the list on the right-hand side for results.

Ladies 1500m prelim
Katherine Reutter Jessica Smith
ADVANCE for sure
Sarah Chen came in 3rd in her heat, but since her time was one of the fastest of all (if she was in any other heat other than the one she was in, she would have been advanced for sure), if the usual holds true, she should be advanced too I would imagine.
From ISU: Top 2 Athletes from each heat and the next 4 fastest thirds qualify for Semifinals. Not qualified skaters will move forward to Rep Semifinals.

Men's 1500m heats Jeff Simon advances Travis Jayner came in fifth in his heat - and since the 'blinking numbers' are not working... again (this is me being surprised... ) ...so who knows what was going on there. He didn't have the needed time, so it looks like it's off to the rep rounds, where I'm sure he'll skate out of them with flying colors. Kyle Uyehara made a very respectable first showing on the World Cup stage. His time was very close to the top 3 finishers in his heat, but it's likely he will be in the rep round as well. Go get 'em Kyle! Next up: Men's 500m (2) prelims ISU: Top 2 Athletes from each heat and the next 2 fastest thirds qualify for Semifinals. Not qualified skaters will move forward to Rep Quarterfinals.

mmm, bit of a discrepancy on the ISU site: It says for the men's 500m heats: "Top 2 Athletes from each heat and the n ext 4 fastest thirds qualify for Quarterfinals. Not qualified skaters will move forward to Rep Heats." ...but it says for the ladies: "Top 2 Athletes from each heat qualify for Quarterfinals. Not qualified skaters will move forward to Rep Quarterfinals." So Emily may be going to the quarterfinals if the rules are consistent with the men's rules...go figure... no indication on ISU site as to exactly who advances. Mens 500m (1) heats Ryan BedfordGoes immediately to the quarterfinals Kyle Carr Appears to be in the 4 fastest thirds and should advance to the quarterfinals as well if the ISU info at the bottom of the page holds true. Simon Cho seems to have had a little trouble in this round, with a possible slip or fall, and will go to the rep round. Hang in there, Simon! up next: Ladies 500m (2) heats

men's 500m (2) prelims Kyle Uyehara (hey, what can I say, I have a warm spot in my heart for Kyle, and I'm so excited he's going straight to a quarterfinal in his debut at a World Cup! Go Kyle!) Jeff Simon (I've got a warm spot for Jeff too, but he's been here before, and he's always great! Go Jeff!) Both move on to the quarterfinals! Ryan Bedford looks likes he goes to the rep round. Go Ryan! Next up: Ladies 1000m heats
