I would not discount the Russians here on in. I am sure they are in full swing for their version of "Own the Podium" for 2014.
They have the raw material for ice sports - dominated in figures and hockey for so long, it was only a matter of time before they focused on speedskating.
Plus - Jimmy Jang was recruited after Vancouver and is one of the Russian Team coaches!

Addendum
I had actually noticed the appearance of Russian skaters in the "A" Finals during the Montreal/Quebec WC. I believe they also made an A Final Relay then ( too lazy to check). This caught my attention back in October and I was impressed with the progress they had made.

Plus - Jimmy Jang was recruited after Vancouver and is one of the Russian Team coaches! Jimmy seems to be making a name for himself over there. Mtnme, thanks so much for the updates! Our team did a very nice job at WC3.
