Tomorrow night (Sunday, March 1) a T-Shirt will go up for auction on E-Bay to benefit a TRF skater, signed by Apolo Anton Ohno. The link will be provided on this thread when the item is listed. Many thanks to Tonya M. for donating the shirt for the benefit of our skaters! The auction will run for 7 days, and will end on Sunday, March 8. The body of the listing is as follows: -------------------------------------------- This is an auction solely for the purpose of raising money for our USA Short Track speedskaters through a grass-roots-fan-based fund-raising group called The Rocker Fund (TheRockerFund.org). We have been operating for less than a year and have raised over $4000 for TRF skaters to help them pursue their athletic goals. There are a lot of people from our short-track websites who will be following this auction, so for those who are familiar with us - I'm Lori (aka Girl Next Door) The item offered is a ladies' T-shirt autographed by Apolo Anton Ohno for a City of Hope charity auction - the signature is: "Apolo Anton Ohno" The T-shirt itself is light beige, and is of a very thin material - it appears to be of a very petite size, though the size listed is OSFM (One Size Fits Most). The signature is on the back of the shirt on the lower right side. It is typical in celebrity autograph auctions to show a picure of the athlete signing the item, but because the autograph was not obtained with the intention of re-sale, we don't have that to offer. Instead, we'll share the story of how the autograph was obtained by Tonya M., and how she came to donate it to The Rocker Fund... ...The shirt was originally won by Tonya on September 20, 2007 in a charity auction for CITY OF HOPE Cancer Center near Los Angeles. Apolo signed the shirt for this auction, run by 'Charity Folks'. Tonya's winning bid was $135 for this worthy cause. I met Tonya at the Short Track Speedskating World Cup in Vancouver, BC last October, and was thrilled when she offered to donate the shirt to The Rocker Fund. While at the competition, Tonya asked for and was granted permission from the Ohno family to re-sell this shirt at auction for the benefit of our USA skaters. We call it 'the little shirt that could' - it just keeps on giving! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO BIDDERS:
Normally, the Rocker Fund takes a 'hands-off' policy toward donations - checks are sent directly to the skaters or to their clubs, and fund organizers never see or touch them. We depend on voluntary reporting by the skaters to determine our effectiveness. However, since this auction is an unusual situation, we are only able to accept payment via Paypal. See below for how your payment will be distributed to one of our skaters.
TAX DEDUCTIBILITY: We are a grass-roots fan organization, not a 501(c)3 non-profit - so unfortunately, your payment for this auction is not tax deductible.
Payment instructions:
A) Payment must be received within 7 days of the end of the auction via Paypal, or the item will be automatically re-listed.
B) We ask the winning bidder to take a look at the skaters on our website, www.therockerfund.org., and choose a skater whose story touches your heart. When payment is received, the chosen athlete will receive 100% of the winning bid amount. The organizers of TRF will pay all listing and shipping fees. When payment is made, please let the seller know which skater should receive your donation.
C) SHIPMENT: The shirt will be shipped within 2 business days of receipt of payment - buyer will be advised of shipment method and date.
You can expect to receive a thank-you note from 'your' skater, and we hope that the process will create a bond that will inspire you to come out and see him/her compete someday!
