Back when my friend Barbara and I attended an end-of-year competition and awards potluck at SoCal Speedskating Association, they had invited some 'Legends of Short Track' to attend. We met all of these skaters, and the club had posted many archival pictures and pieces of memorabilia around the room.
It really was one of the coolest experiences I've had as a fan of this sport, and I've long thought of starting a thread for those special 'nuggets' of speedskating history.
For purposes of this particular thread, let's just call 'history' anything that occurred before Y2K - because we already have dedicated threads to most of the top-level ST skaters since then!
As you may already know, there IS a National Speed Skating Museum and Hall of Fame at the Pettit National Ice Center in Milwaukee. Several of my friends are actively adding to their archive, and if you want to delve deeper, you should check them out at the following links:
