How the competition was run: All of the qualified skaters participated in a 9-lap time trial on Day 1. The top 16 skaters per gender moved on in the competition, and the non-qualifying skaters were eliminated from the competition.
The qualified skaters participated in a 4-Lap Time Trial, which gave ‘half’ points toward the 500M distance. The 9-Lap TT gave ‘half’ points toward the 1000M and 1500M distances.
Each distance was raced twice - Thursday was the Time Trials; Friday - 1500M(1), 1500M(2); Saturday - 500M(1), 500M(2); Sunday - 1000M(1), 1000M(2). The skaters finishing first in each distance got automatic berths on the team - the next positions were filled by the 2nd-place skaters in each distance. Any remaining positions were filled based on Overall rankings for the weekend. There were no discretionary selections in this competition.
