It has been one of my summer goals to create this thread - but the recent astounding EXPLOSION of donations to Emily Scott due to an article in USA Today has caused me to 'expedite'! (see more info on Emily's thread - www.therockerforum.proboards.com/thread/1086/emily-scott?page=3&scrollTo=15044) A bit of history: Once upon a time, I started a Yahoo Group to organize fans to 'meet & greet' at the 2007 US Championships. During the discussion, a fan mentioned that she had made a donation to USS to support the skaters. A skater who was a member of our group made the following statement: "If you want to help a skater, write a check and give it to a skater." Long story short, this was the seed that started The Rocker Fund - we believe that the generosity of the public is the greatest resource our skaters have - and today's developments with Emily Scott have confirmed that. Though we hope for the best in the future, at the present time our skaters cannot rely on USS (and apparently not much on the 'trickle down' from USOC either). We have become even more skeptical when USS tugs at the heartstrings of the public, stating that various levels of donations can 'buy' this-and-that for the skaters - while at the same time publicly stating that they do not give direct funding to skaters... Our recommendation is the same as our skater friend from 2007: "If you want to help a skater, write a check and give it to a skater." Here's how you can help in exactly that way: ----------------------------- SKATERS: If you have a donations link (Paypal, GoFundMe, RallyMe, etc.), please notify me at Lori@rocker-u.net! It's my goal to publicize these links as much as possible... ============================= Here is a list of all of our USA skaters who have donation links (to our knowledge) - if any of their stories touch your heart, please help them out: (In alphabetical order) The first group of skaters are those we've been emphasizing here on our forum, and those you may be the most familiar with: NOTE: SOME OF THESE SKATERS MAY HAVE RETIRED AFTER THE SOCHI OLYMPICS - WE HAVEN'T GOTTEN THE CURRENT STATUS ON ALL OF THEM, SO YOU SHOULD ALWAYS CHECK BEFORE DONATING!SHORT TRACK SKATERS WITH THREADS HERE AT BOOTS & BLADESCARR, Kyle USA Olympic Hopeful Fundraiserwww.gofundme.com/2rolwsCOOPER, Kazia Olympic Dreams ~ Kazia Cooperwww.gofundme.com/vyms4CREVELING, Chris Chris Creveling's Olympic Dreamwww.gofundme.com/ChrisCrevelingDERRICK, Kimberly (Retired) 2014 Olympic Hopeful www.gofundme.com/28b88oDUDEK, Alyson Alyson DudekGo Fund Me: www.gofundme.com/alysondudekRally Aly to Sochi!Rally Me: www.rallyme.com/rallies/129HATFIELD, Landon (Retired) Landon G. Jordan Malone has just posted his gofundme on FB. www.gofundme.com/Jordanmalone2014I just asked Travis on twitter if he has a go fund me site. (I don't think he has a fan site on FB) Edit from Admin (Lori): Thanks, mtnme, I just added Jordan.

Note that I edited Travis and Landon's links - for Travis, I had inadvertently posted the link to a secondary page rather than his Home Page. Not sure why Landon's wasn't working - it looks different now... maybe he started an entirely new page(?), but I think I've gotten it corrected.

I've edited this thread to go beyond my original intent of limiting the Crowd-Funding links to short track skaters with threads here. There are young, promising skaters who are already living away from home and incurring heavy travel expenses, as well as some of our favorite ST skaters who are now skating LT - we'll never turn our backs on them. And then there are the LT skaters who have never had threads here - they're all struggling. It seemed unfair to have parameters that shut some skaters out, so even though our emphasis is on the first group, I chose to list them all - our readers can decide who they want to donate to!

I just added a second link (in the header post above) for Jessica Smith - in addition to the Paypal link on her website, she also has a Rally Me page: Road to Gold Sochi 2014 - Jessica Smithwww.rallyme.com/rallies/163

We've been posting a lot about Bridie lately, and here's one more: She has started a crowdfunding page thru Rocket Hub. Bridie's skating Long Track now, but we have included LT skaters in our list above. FARRELL, Bridie Support Team Bridie 2014 www.rockethub.com/33383There IS a deadline of November 30 for this effort

Many of the skaters on our Sochi Olympic team are using crowdfunding as a way to help defray the enormous cost of bringing their families with them to Sochi.
Those who I've heard are actively trying to raise funds are Jessica Smith, Emily Scott, Aly Dudek, Jordan Malone and Chris Creveling.
All of these skaters have crowdfunding links that you can find in the Original Post on this thread (scroll up). These links were originally created for their training expenses - so if you'd like to donate for family travel you might want to include a note telling them that they are welcome to use the donation for that purpose.

Noting a few Crowdfunding links I've added recently to the Original Post (scroll up): SANTOS, Kristen Help Kristen Santos with Olympic dreamswww.gofundme.com/61lyjs...and I only recently learned that one of our favorite skaters (and now a Sochi-bound Olympian), Jonathan Garcia, also has a GoFundMe! GARCIA, Jonathan Jonathan Garcia's Olympic Dream Sochiwww.gofundme.com/wwwjonathangarciausI will also be noting in the Original Post any skaters who I'm sure (or pretty sure) are retiring - if I'm incorrect, please contact me at lori@rocker-u.net.

As I said upthread, you should be able to use any Olympian's crowdfunding link to help their families attend the Olympics - just use the 'send a note' feature to tell them they can use the donation for that purpose. Jessica Smith has a RallyMe specifically for sending her family to Sochi, and I've added it to the Original Post list: Olympic Dreams Come True!www.youcaring.com/other/olympic-dreams-come-true-/122826

Allison Baver's Off The Ice Foundation has started a RallyMe! This thread is generally intended for active skaters, but the one exception is when a retired skater is a primary player or spokesperson for a charity - particularly if it is speedskating-related. Help Allison help others on the following link: www.rallyme.com/rallies/520/offtheice
