Hopefully y'all are able to see this - a 4-part video series about JR, inlcuding a bio and several great photos. My antiquated desktop won't load it properly, though my laptop just LOVES it. Unfortunately, my desktop has the programs by which I can share it with you! asiancemagazine.com/2010/01/31/speed-skater-jr-celskiBit by bit (the videos are from The AIM Companies): Part 1, The Beginning - Video of JR's first pair of roller skates on his third birthday: Part 2, Where in the World is JR Celski? - JR talks about his ST travels: Part 3, The Mom - Behind every good man is a good Mom, and Sue Celski is one of the best! Part 4, The Crash - JR has put it behind him and he's ready for Vancouver!

Click the link below for the entire article, as well as a video of JR recounting how Ohno's 2002 gold inspired him to try short track! Celski ready to complete comeback in Vancouver Skater says he's still 'a little scared of racing' following gruesome crash By Meri-Jo Borzilleri, Special to NBCOlympics.com / Feb 2, 2010 KEARNS, Utah -- Back at top speed, J.R. Celski is leaning into curves again on the short track speed skating oval during the final weeks of training for the 2010 Olympics.
He is no longer jittery skating in a pack. His body is strong, just like before the crash that left his right thigh sliced to the bone nearly five months ago.
Celski, in a Team USA blue speed suit, looks as if he's never left. He's skating as fast as before -- just not as fearlessly. "It's a little iffy, I can say I'm a little scared of racing," he said during a break between two-a-day training sessions three weeks before the Olympics open. "It brings back memories, of course. But it's nothing I can't handle."Read the entire article at: www.nbcolympics.com/news-features/news/newsid=404310.html

Another happy ending - kudos to Jet Set and the reader who acted on behalf of the Celski's: Jet Set ponies up short track tickets for CelskisPosted by Ron Judd / February 2, 2010 A lot of people read the piece in our four-part series about Olympic ticketing that detailed the struggle athletes' families often have obtaining tickets. But one of them took matters into her own hands.
After seeing a piece in The Times about short-track speedskater J.R. Celski's parents' search for tickets for his brothers to watch J.R. compete, a reader contacted CoSport/Jet Set Sports, the sole U.S. ticket distributor, on their behalf.
She recently received a reply from company president Mark Lewis, who said he's set aside two comp family tickets for the short-track session on Feb. 26th. We passed that along to Sue Celski, J.R.'s mom, who was ecstatic. Quoting now: "WOW! and WOW!"
The happy mom will be contacting the company to pick up the tickets. For the rest of the story: seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/ronjuddsolympicsinsider/2010963516_jet_set_ponies_up_short_track.html

From the blog 'Living Healthy in the Real World': Interview with an Olympic AthleteI was fortunate enough on Wednesday to get an exclusive phone interview with U.S. speed skating Olympian J.R. Celski! I know. I’m Canadian. But who am I to turn down the chance to interview an Olympic athlete, regardless of their nationality? I figured I should probably ‘fess up, so I told him within the first couple minutes that I’m on the “opposing team”:
Me: I’m actually Canadian, so to be honest I’m more interested in you as an athlete in general rather than as an athlete representing the United States at the Olympic Games.
J.R.: Yeah, I figured you were Canadian when you said “aboot”.Read more at: www.livingintherealworld.net/healthy/?p=1799

THIS is now my favorite interview - NBC Nightly News. JR talks sincerely about the comparisons to Apolo, his ties to his family, and his love for his sport. The maturity level that he shows in this interview is beyond compare. My prayers are that God gives this young man the strength and mental fortitude to overcome his injury and make an impact in Vancouver - that people will remember him and be inspired by him... as well they should be, whether he comes home with many medals or none at all. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/35259523#35259523(Okay, it totally destroys my inspirational prelude here when the video is introduced by a Charmin toilet paper ad... )

There is a cross-post on AAO's thread too. Video tonight on KING5
Apolo and JR Celski take the ice for the first time Related to this article Video J.R. Celski discusses his Seattle roots Short track speed skater J.R. Celski discusses what it was like to grow up in Seattle Slideshows Richmond Olympic Oval The Richmond Olympic Oval will host the speed skating competition during the Vancouver Games.
Stories •What to expect: Short track •Injured skater Celski plans to be at Olympics Wow. What a start for our Olympics coverage.
We heard about a speed skating practice early this morning, over at Pacific Coliseum, and decided to take a chance and see if our local boys, Apolo Ohno, and JR Celski, would be there.
They didn't disappoint.
Photographer Ken Jones and I were able to watch them in their first practice at the oval, which will be the short track speed skating venue for the Olympics.
We were the only American crew on hand, and it was pretty awesome to see up close.
Ohno looked loose, and confident. JR was quiet, and seemed to be testing his leg, injured badly in a fall last year.
JR told me afterward he felt good, and he's still soaking this first Olympic experience in. He said he feels close to 100 percent, and his coach, Jae Su Chun agreed. Chun told us his recovery is surprising, and that JR could also surprise some people at these Games.
Chun added than Apolo looks as good as ever. Ohno didn't stop to talk to us, as we were told he's "not doing media" until after his first race.
The venue, Pacific Coliseum, looks good. I was pleased given it's drab, dark look from the outside, but they've brightened it up for the Games.
A word of warning: it is a pain to get near it.
We had to clear two traffic checkpoints, and then had to go to an "airport-style" security checkpoint. We then had to go past another checkpoint before we could get to the ice, and that was with a pass. There are MANY layers of security wherever you go.
You should see our video from the practice, and interview with JR in our early evening newscasts, and we'll see you live from Vancouver Monday Night!

Washington Post article w/a few new quotes from J.R. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/14/AR2010021403407.htmlThis one is my favorite: "I guess the moments when we're down and out are the moments when we learn the most about ourselves," he said. "When I was laying out on the ice, I was in defeat at first. I thought my whole career was over. I guess in those moments we truly define ourselves. I pushed forward and I knew I could do it. I guess that's why I recovered so fast."
