Celski is coming back from a broken ankle suffered last year, and said his summer training paid off.

J.R. had an awesome first 2 World Cup outings in Canada, including a World Record in the 500M! But first, here's how he got there... J.R. skated in the US Single-Distance Championships in Salt Lake City (Sept 27-30, 2012). J.R. was FIRST overall, WINNING the 1500M(2), 500M(2) and both 1000M distances. Here are his results: 1st Overall 9-Lap Time Trial - 2nd 4-Lap Time Trial - 8th 1500M(1) – Penalty (A Final) 500M(1) - 3rd (A Final) 1000M(1) – 1st (A Final) 1500M(2) - 1st (A Final) 500M(2) – 1st (A Final) 1000M(2) – 1st (A Final) J.R. skates in USSDC in Salt Lake City. J.R.skated in World Cups 1 & 2 (Calgary & Montreal, Canada, respectively). In Calgary, he won the gold medal in the 500M, and became the first ST skater in history to break the 40-second barrier in that distance! Hi, everyone - a couple of posts upthread, we voted for J.R. to be U.S. Sports Academy's Athlete of the Month for October... He WON, and now each of the 12 'Athletes of the Month' are up for 'Athlete of the Year'! Let's vote for J.R.! It's simple, and doesn't require you to register for anything - here's the link: ussa.edu/ballots/athlete-of-the-year/You DO have to vote for 1 Male AND 1 Female (I voted for Gabby Douglas) - the female is up to you, but let's give J.R. the WIN! Hmmm... it looks like you can vote more than once!

J.R. skated at World Cup 3 in Nagoya, Japan (Nov 30-Dec 2). Here are his results: 1500M(1) - Not Entered 1000M - SILVER MEDAL; Prelims (1st); Heats (1st); Quarterfinals (1st); Semis (3rd-Advanced); Final A (2nd) 500M - Not Entered 1500M(2) - MADE IT TO FINAL A*; Prelims (1st); Heats (1st); Semis (5th-Advanced); Final A (Did Not Start) 5000M Relay - Not Entered *Unfortunately, J.R. incurred a possible concussion in his 1500M(2) Semifinal fall, and was unable to start in Final A as a result… J.R. wins silver in the 1000M! J.R. skated in the US Championships in Salt Lake City (Dec 20-22, 2012). Congrats to J.R. for winning his first US Championship! He also won both Time Trials and 3 of 4 individual distances. J.R.’s results qualified him for the Winter World Cup team, and he will be one of the 2 U.S. men who will skate individual events at the World Championships in Hungary! Milestones: With all of his success, it’s hard to believe that this is J.R.’s first US Championship!
