The 'B' Group at AmCup 2 should prove to be very interesting. If I'm understanding it right, skaters who are young enough will be competing in the 'B' group for the chance to represent the USA at the Jr. Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria this winter! For the first time in my memory, the signups for the B Group exceed or rival the signups for the elite division! Prediction: Thomas Hong will go to Innsbruck for the men. I don't wanna jinx him, but just sayin...

Hasn't national team members in the AmCup 2? Sorry, dose, I didn't realize that your question hadn't been answered! Based on my current understanding, here's what I'll throw out there as an answer (if anyone has anything to add or correct, PLEASE DO!): American Cup 1 is the selection competition for the Fall World Cups, and US Championships is the selection competition for the Winter World Cups and World Championships - so ALL skaters who desire to be on the National Team (NT) will skate in these events. However, the other American Cups (2, 3 and Final) are not heavily attended by current NT members. The AC SERIES winners (one man, one woman) receive automatic invites to train with the NT, so the best rising skaters are usually there, as are 'headline' skaters who may have just missed making the NT. All of the American Cups provide challenging competition, so sometimes NT members will compete for various reasons: To earn points toward the overall AC Championship and that 'auto-invite', OR to sharpen themselves for their upcoming international competitions. It's a choice that each skater makes individually!
