For a glimpse of the events at AmCupIII this weekend, see (Liz' dad) Michael Looby's great blog: It's Not Too Late To Skateoccasional comments by the speed skater at the back of the pack Today's entry is entitled: The Meet that Never Was, or How Vancouver's Snow Went South for the WinterFeb 6, 2010 nottoolatetoskate.blogspot.com/2010/02/meet-that-never-was-or-how-calgarys.htmlMichael talks about the roof collapse, snowball fights, blizzards in swim trunks, and hide-and-seek in a hotel without power... Looby, Ralston injured during crash in 1,000Associated Press / USA Today / October 3, 2010 www.usatoday.com/sports/olympics/2010-10-03-3153098309_x.htmClarification: the article mentions that they were skating in the Class C American Cup race - it was actually the C Final of the ladies' 1000M. Update: Liz had surgery Sunday night and was released from the hospital yesterday afternoon (Monday). She was able to fly back home to Utah last night! +++ WEST ALLIS, WIS. (AP) — Elizabeth Looby and Katherine Ralston were injured Sunday when they crashed during a 1,000-meter race in the American Cup short track speed skating championship. Looby, of Pittsford, N.Y., and Ralston, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., collided and hit the retaining wall coming out of a turn during the competititon at the Pettit National Ice Center. They were skating in the Class C American Cup race. The two were rushed to Froedert Hospital after the accident occurred about 1:30 p.m. CST. Looby was cut behind her right inner thigh, which caused extensive bleeding that was visible on the ice while medics and skating officials tended to her. Ralston had unknown injuries. She was taken off the ice strapped to a body board, indicating possible concussion or neck injuries. Both skaters were conscious while being treated. Medical personnel were overheard saying Looby's blood pressure was good despite the blood loss.[/img]

Liz recently posted another entry - 'Recovery' - on her blog (and you'll see that she has a hidden talent, too!): theunstoppableleftturn.blogspot.com/She also posted the link to Tony's video of her injury - and with typical good humor, she writes, "I havent watched it yet though, I'm gonna wait a little bit. So don't spoil the ending for me" Here is the video - It's uncomfortable to watch, but you'll see from Tony's introduction that the injured skaters were okay with it being 'out there'. This is part of Liz's skating history, and she approved this posting - maybe the publicity will help improve safety for all of our ST athletes... www.youtube.com/user/Zclyh3#p/a/u/2/U7YElndU8lITags: Liz Looby / Katy Ralston / Short Track Speedskating

Ya' just can't keep a good woman down! Here's yesterday's comment on FB from Liz (with photo - used with permission): I did my first workout in 3 weeks today at the Oval! Abs, upper body, and leg lifts. Plus some agility crutching. Got that part on video. I also weighed myself, lost 11 lbs of beloved muscle. The 'agility crutching' video is cute, but I'm not techno-savvy enough to get it from there to here... Tags: Liz Looby / Elizabeth Looby / Short Track Speedskating
