I'll be posting some results from Morgan's WC1 races soon (still looking for some photos), but first things first - I'm still catching up after my trip, and here's some 'pre' WC1 info: Morgan's results for American Cup 1 – (Oct 2-3, 2010) in Milwaukee: 7th Overall 1500M - 5th (A Final) 500M - 3rd (B Final) 1000M - 2nd (C Final) 1500M SF - 2nd (B Final) The top 5 skaters overall were automatically offered spots on the Fall World Cup team - the skater who gets the 6th spot is a Selection Committee choice, and Morgan was chosen to skate in World Cups 1 & 2, Montreal, Canada, and Quebec City in October! This will give Morgan valuable international experience as we enter this next Olympic cycle! The local short track standout makes her debut among the world's elite this weekend when she competes in the World Cup Short Track Series event in Montreal. "We're not expecting her to be on any podiums just yet, but just to be there is pretty exciting," said her father Al Izykowski. "She's worked her whole life to get there." Read More: www.mlive.com/sports/bay-city/index.ssf/2010/10/morgan_izykowski_heads_to_worl.htmlIzykowski is part of the five-skater team representing the U.S. in the worldwide event that runs Friday-Sunday at Maurice-Richard Arena. Races are slated for 500 meters, 1,000 and 1,500 as well as a 3,000-meter relay, although Izykowski hasn't been informed which races she'll enter. Izykowski, 19, qualified for the team during the American Cup last month. As part of the team, she'll have an opportunity to accumulate World Cup points toward a world ranking. All told, there are six World Cup events, include the second North American stop Oct. 29-31 in Quebec City.[/img] +++ Tags: Morgan Izykowski / Brittany Salmon / Short Track Speedskating

I’m a little late posting this, but here’s an article from Morgan’s hometown paper about her selection to the World Cup team after the US Championships: Bay City's Morgan Izykowski finishes eighth at U.S. Short Track Championships, will take part in spring World Cup events By Zachary Reichard | Bay City Times / December 20, 2010 After an eighth place finish at the U.S. Championships, Morgan Izykowski was selected as a discretionary pick for the U.S. short track speedskating team’s World Cup roster. The U.S. Championships, held this past weekend, consisted of two time trials as well as four events. Izykowski finished seventh in the 1500 meter and 500 meter events and sixth in the 1000 meter and 3000 meter. “I was a little nervous going into it,” Izykowski said. “I think I skated really well, I couldn’t have asked for more.” Read More: www.mlive.com/sports/bay-city/index.ssf/2010/12/bay_citys_morgan_izykowski_fin.htmlIzykowski got a call Sunday night from the coaches notifying her that she had been selected as the discretionary pick for the U.S. World Cup teams. The team takes the top five finishers at the U.S. Championships and the sixth position is selected by coaches. She said she was ecstatic when she got the call, and it was made all the more special because she was with her family at the time. Even though Izykowski skated in two World Cup events in the fall, she wasn’t sure she would make the team again in the spring. “I honestly wasn’t expecting it. Talking to my coaches before the weekend, they said, ‘If you don’t make it, it will give you more time to train hard for the next season and next opportunity,” Izykowski said. The two World Cup events will be in Moscow, Russia and Dresden Germany, places Izykowski has never been before. The Moscow event will be Feb. 11-13 while the Dresden event will be Feb. 18 -20. Until then, Izykowski will be training and getting ready to compete, but she does have some time off for the holiday season. “We have training today and tomorrow and then we get the rest of the week off,” Izykowski said.[/img] Tags: Morgan Izykowski / Short Track Speedskating +++
