It's after midnight, I fell asleep on the couch, but decided to check my Google Alerts before hitting my pillow. Saw one about Eddy that was too freakin' good to wait 'till morning... BUT - I was thrilled to see that it's already here! Thank You GASP! Looks like Jennifer Rodriguez and I both graduated from Palmetto H.S. in Florida - but I graduated from the OTHER one, lol!

Here's an ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS glimpse of 'Eddy the Jet' as a really young youngster - the video was taken and produced by Harold Davis, Eddy's first coach back in the Miami area. Harold has a passion for speedskating, both inline and ice - and is a musician, cameraman and actor as well. I thank Harold for the link and for his blessings to share it with you:
Good Luck in Marquette, Eddy - Amazing Awaits!

Oops, I copied the wrong link for the above photo - I fixed it, so scroll up to see it! I'll add a few more from Jerry: L to R: Eddy, Jonathan Garcia, Robert Lawrence: Eddy was a 'wild man' on the ice - these 2 photos remind me of that 'Smashmouth' song: " I get knocked down, but I get up again - you're never gonna keep me down..." ;D Helmet askew, it didn't even seem to faze him, did it? Eddy's 'go for broke' skating reminds me so much of Jeff Simon a couple of seasons ago. If he can 'settle' like Jeff did, he should go far in this sport.

This is too cute - look at that sweet lil' face! This is a YouTube video from the archives of Harold Davis - actor, speedskater, and the guy who coaxed 'Eddy the Jet' from wheels to ice, back in the day...

Welcome back, Eddy - it’s been awhile! March 2010 was the last time we saw Eddy on the ice - he took some time off for college (and college baseball). Eddy skated in the US Single-Distance Championships in Salt Lake City (Sept 27-30, 2012). He had a VERY good comeback competition, coming oh-so-close to making the Fall World Cup team… here are his results: Milestones: In National-Team-selection competitions, this is (I think)... a) Eddy's highest overall finish (7th), and b) first time on the podium (2 silvers). 7th Overall 9-Lap Time Trial - 11th 4-Lap Time Trial - 5th 1500M(1) – 3rd (B Final) 500M(1) - 2nd (A Final) 1000M(1) – Penalty (Semifinal) 1500M(2) - 2nd (A Final) 500M(2) – 1st (B Final) 1000M(2) – Penalty (Quarterfinal) Eddy leads Chris Creveling and J.R. Celski at USSDC in Salt Lake City. Photo Credit: Jerry Search See More of Jerry's photos at: www.facebook.com/#!/jerry.search/photos www.nationalspeedskatingmuseum.org/Photo%20Albums/JerrysAlbums.htm

I just love finding article like this in my Google Alerts - nice, 2-page article that describes why Eddy went off our radar after 2010. He's come back strong! *thumbs up* Eddy!!! Eddy Alvarez won’t let go of Olympic dreamBy Linda Robertson The Miami Herald Eddy Alvarez has persevered throughout a painful path that ultimately has put him on course to become the second Cuban-American from Miami to make a U.S. Winter Olympics team. One year ago, Eddy Alvarez was in Miami, in a funk, in a quandary and in agony. His knees hurt, his heart ached. His choice was to hang up his ice skates and his Olympic vision, or undergo knee surgery and reconstruct that vision from the debris of his shredded tendons. Alvarez chose the path of certain pain and uncertain glory, which took him to the world short track speedskating championships in Hungary last month. He hopes it’s a step toward the 2014 Sochi Olympics, but he knows that in his slippery sport, crashes have a way of obliterating forward progress. World Championships, Debrecen ~ Hungary, 3-8-2013, Day 1:I haven't had many chances of taking photos of Eddy until the last year, so I'd like to share several here! These photos were taken during warm-up for the relay team. I'll post pics on the other skater's thread too. Photobucket shuffled the order, so these are not in sequence, time-wise. Photobucket is wonky today!

Eddy represented Team USA at the World Championships in Debrecen, Hungary (March 8-10, 2013). He did not skate in individual events at this competition, but he did skate in the Relay Semifinals, where the team finished 4th and did not advance.
