I couldn't hear a thing being said. Who was Katherine waving to in audience to her stage right? When asked who was with her, she said Joey Cheek - and she waved at him (to HER right), so that's probably who you're thinking of. Tom Frank from USS was also mentioned by one of the speakers as being 'in da house'.

Katherine is having her second (of two) hip surgeries today. When she was on stage in NYC on Tuesday night, she looked like she was recovering nicely from her first one - prayers for a full and speedy recovery from this one, too!

Today is the first time that I've mentioned this online, but Katherine stayed at our home as she recovered from her first hip surgery in 2010. She was a lovely addition to our 'family', and I never saw a person more determined to do things for herself after such a catastrophic trauma to her body. I never doubted that she would return to competition and do great things, and she did just that - winning the 2011 World Championship in the 1500M! This is a sport that is brutal on a body - and after the subsequent double hip surgery, I can't say I'm surprised to hear this. She's young - with an active, productive life ahead of her! I consider Katherine and her family to be among the finest people I've ever met in the short track community. She will be missed... Yes, she will be missed. Meeting Katherine in December of 2007 at US Champs was an extra bonus! It has been so inspiring to watch Katherine on and off the ice as her career progressed. Sharing the Olympic experience with Katherine and her family will always be a fond memory of mine. I am certain we will continue to see great things from Katherine, just in a different format. Wishing her well as she takes the next step in her life! I guess we will need to start the Rootin' for Reutter Alumni Association! Katherine's website is still active: www.katherinereutter.com/

Thanks to John Carr's American Anthem - ST Speedskating Movie on Facebook ( www.facebook.com/AmericanAnthem) for reminding me of one of my favorite photos of Katherine - her silver medal celebration in Vancouver. I can't believe we don't have it posted here on her thread yet!
