Look for Eddy Alvarez and Emily Scott! (There are a few other ST'ers in some of the action clips, but too fast for me to pick 'em out...)

I (personally) will not be posting info about any Olympic results until after the prime-time broadcasts have aired on the West Coast. As a courtesy to those who would prefer to avoid hearing results before watching the broadcasts (including non-ST results), please preface any comments that reveal results with a 'SPOILER ALERT' heading - then you might add a few blank lines for good measure!
Thanks so much!

Here's the short track page of the Sochi website. www.sochi2014.com/en/short-trackThis is where you can find the schedule and where the results will be posted when they become available. All of the athletes that are competing are listed here along with the distances they will likely be competing in (the athletes are final but which athlete is entered in which distance may change). Notably China has not narrowed down who is skating each distance at this point so all athletes are listed in all distances. The rest of the countries have submitted at least a preliminary list of who's competing in which distances. All of the athletes have pictures and information posted on them including information about world cups, world championships and previous Olympics and quite a few of the skaters have other interesting facts and information listed about them. I personally was having some trouble with the drop down menus in the athletes section and every time I try to scroll down the entire page just refreshes which makes it difficult to see more then the first 9 countries. I don't know if it's a problem with the website or just with my computer. If you have this issue then you can click on the drop down menu and start typing the name of the country you're looking for until it comes up and then press enter or you can scroll down on the main page through all of the athletes until you find who you are looking for. Alternatively, if you just want to see who is listed as competing in each distance (at this point in time) then you can check out the Wikipedia pages which matches what the website says: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_track_speed_skating_at_the_2014_Winter_Olympics

I remember the summer Olympics in Atlanta. We were living in Alabama and residents were furious. The folks in Atlanta gave all the homeless people one way tickets to Birmingham, AL to get them out of Georgia for the Olympics!

Some photos of opening ceremonies I confess, I really enjoyed the whole 'War and Peace' themed ballet. The lead dancer even looks a little like Audrey Hepburn. Nobody does ballet like the Russians. And I'm really glad Jon Ely got to lead Great Britain in Here's our team! Really interesting building. I hope they continue to use it after the Olympics are gone. USA!USA!USA! Let's play a short track version of 'Where's Waldo'. Only, it's called, find the speedskaters... These are just a smattering of the photos. For those who don't have access to cable/satellite, and therefor can't access NBC's coverage online, (not even if you are willing to pay for access, because NBC doesn't offer it.) you can watch live feeds AND watch on demand anything you've missed on Canada's CBC's website. You'll need to Download a free software program by TunnelBear. Follow the directions. You'll get a couple of hours of free viewing before you'll have to pony up. $5 a month gets you unlimited viewing from several nations. You can quit at any time. Hint: as to why you need this. You know all those short track competitions the U.S. is constantly being blocked from viewing? This software is a VPN service. Essentially, it tells the internet you're living in Canada, the UK, Japan...wherever those short track competitions AREN'T being blocked. Get the hint?

SPOILER ALERT (NBC has aired this already on their Primetime broadcast, but because of the late hour, some may have DVR'd it and haven't yet watched...) Scroll down: > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The broadcast showed all of J.R. Celski's 1500M races, Eddy Alvarez' 1500M Heat, and all 3 of our Ladies in their 500M Heats. I stayed up late-night to watch the Live stream, and here's a recap of the USA performances: Chris Creveling (Eliminated in Heats) - Late in the race it seemed that he fell back too far - I worried that he was 'out', but he battled back at the end to challenge for that 3rd qualifying spot! It was a photo finish, but sadly he ended up 4th. Eddy Alvarez (Penalty in the Semifinals) - After a great race in the Heats, I was chatting with a friend on Facebook during the Semifinal races and remarked, "Uh-Oh - the slow-mo shows Eddy coming thru like a wrecking ball..." The officials saw it that way too, and Eddy received a penalty. J.R. Celski (4th in Final) - J.R.'s Heat went according to hoyle, not much drama there. However, in the Semifinals (with only 2 advancing), the 2 Koreans had a pretty tight wall going, but the 1st place skater fell (on his own) and took out his teammate. J.R. and the Chinese skater avoided the melee and finished 1-2. The 2nd-place Korean (Lee Han-Bin) was advanced, as he was in a qualifying position when he fell thru no fault of his own. In the Final, I'm just not sure what went wrong. J.R. may have gotten caught in traffic until it was too late, he may have run out of gas (in an earlier interview, it came out that he has a bad cold) - but it was also entirely likely that he lost his momentum when British skater Jack Whelbourne fell near him at a critical moment in the race. (Jack was holding his right ankle as he spun out and was clearly limping as he finished the race - I hope he's okay...) Charles Hamelin wins the day in what the announcers referred to as his 'weakest distance'! ----------- They showed all of our Ladies' 500M Heats in Late-Night on NBC: Emily Scott - Finished 2nd and advanced. It wasn't easy - she really had to work to get by Agne Sereikaite of Lithuania, and did a great job in what is not considered her best distance. Aly Dudek - Was at a disadvantage from the get-go, starting from Lane 4 (horrible lane for the 500M). She battled from 4th to 3rd - finishing 3rd, but incurring a penalty in the process. Jessica Smith - Was in 3rd position after the start, but at the end of Lap 1 she fell. When NBC showed the slow-mo of her mishap, it was clear that she clicked blades with the Russian skater behind her. Unlucky... ----------- They did not show any television coverage (that I know of) of the Ladies' 3000M Relay Semifinals. The USA Ladies did not participate, but those who advanced to the Final were: Korea, Canada, China and Italy.

Jessica Smith, Eddy Alvarez, Emily Scott and J.R. Celski made the top 40 sexiest Sochi Olympians. Clearly, the forgot the rest of the team, which are pretty nice looking too...but I guess they had to leave SOME spots open for the other athletes. Not bad that 4 out of 40 spots including international athletes we're our short trackers. Handsome lads and lass's all! www.zimbio.com/Sexiest+Winter+Olympians/articles/wdceoOCpf0g/Jessica+Smith

I'm still having issues with loading pages here on the forum. I've spent hours of my time with both ProBoards and ATT (my internet service provider). Both companies have been great, but at this point, both are pointing fingers at each other, with no resolution. I'm resorting to my IPad, which is totally inefficient for anything other than posting comments. All my photos and saved article links are on my laptop, so they're unavailable to me except for short, intermittent windows of 'lucky' time! Please bear with me...
