I heard at our session last night that Tony is going to Sheffield to stream the races. So he won't be at age group nationals next week. He's definitely going to be in Sheffield, but he won't be video streaming - he can't stream at ISU events. He says he may Tweet or do a UStream chat, so check those links. (I'll post them when we're ready to race). So, it'll be 'blinking numbers' for us, with (hopefully) Tony filling in the gaps. He's checking to see if CCTV has any plans to broadcast. I'm sure that Dose will be checking on that too! ;D

Translated a note by CHO Ha-Ri before the World Championships. CHO Ha-Ri note: Ah, ah! Sent messages to Katherine Reutter. She said she would invite me to eat quiches and apple pies of she cook before races at races station. I only ate the flavors of Washington State, Katherine said she would cook the flavors of Illinois and Michigan. I hardly wait to want to eat the two small pastries that accompanied with my growth. I especially liked to eat desserts at there when my family was still in Seattle, led to have two decayed teeth now. Katherine said she will wait for me in 1000m race. Ah, ah! I want to say, I will wait for Liu Qiuhong and ST-GELAIS Marianne in 1000m race. My goal is not what color the medal but rather can beat Liu Qiuhong and Marianne. Of course, Is not one 500m, only Wang Meng can beat them in the world, I said it is two 500m and three 500m. Oh! United Kingdom! I like the English-speaking countries, so I have not language barrier! I can sneak out to eat those local characteristics cuisines! Now do the final adjustment, I could not have been laughing and joking but forgetting work myself, I am a skater. We are Tai Chi Warriors, Our competition clothing is written sacred K.O.R.E.A. For the sake of honor of our country, we have not reason not to hard. Finally to say: Tai Chi Warriors! Let's go! Republic of Korea Fighting! Victory Korea!! I will bring back good results!! "Katherine said she will wait for me in 1000m race." Ha! I love this! It seems that our USA skaters and the Koreans get along well off the ice.

USA team coaches are South Korean, South Korea team also have strength, so these skaters should have many opportunities to contact. Katherine is nice. Deets: Cho Ha-Ri is Katherine's "lover", Katherine is Cho Ha-Ri's "fiance"!

Here’s your ‘Study Guide’ for World Championships…
THE SKATERS:
Ladies: Individual Events – Katherine Reutter; Lana Gehring Relay – Jessica Smith; Emily Scott; Alyson Dudek
Men: Individual Events – Jeff Simon; Simon Cho; Travis Jayner Relay – Anthony Lobello; Kyle Carr
Note that we’ll be entering 3 men and only 2 ladies for the individual events – here’s why:
Countries are normally allowed 2 entries in each distance – but some are able to qualify a third skater.
In order to qualify 3 skaters, a country must have had at least 2 skaters in the top 16 in the previous year’s World Championships – and at least one of those 2 skaters must have earned Final Points (i.e., making it into the Final). There is a separate computation for each gender.
In last year’s World Championships, Katherine Reutter was the only USA woman to finish in the top 16, therefore we have only 2 ladies.
For the men, both J.R. Celski and Travis Jayner finished in the top 16, and both of them earned Final Points – therefore we qualified to race 3 men in each distance. The remaining members of the team will skate in the relays.
The 3 skaters per gender chosen for this weekend's competition is (technically) at the coaches' discretion – but the USA uses the order of finish at US Championships to determine those skaters. It must be the same skaters all weekend. They can't have different skaters for each event as in World Cup competition. Therefore, for most countries, they will choose the skaters that the coaches feel are the best all-around skaters at the moment.
THE SCORING:
Skaters in the 1500M, the 500M and the 1000M Finals will gain points based on the following scale (assuming it's the same as last year):
1st - 34 2nd - 21 3rd - 13 4th - 8 5th - 5 6th - 3 7th - 2 8th - 1
After all 3 races, the top 8 skaters who have earned Final Points (per gender) will skate in the grueling 3000M, which often determines the overall winner. In order to keep this race from going at a snail's pace at the start, there is a bonus of 5 points awarded to the skater at the lead after the first 1000M (9 laps). FYI, in the past, these 5 points have made the difference in who wins the World Championship!
The relay is raced as a stand-alone event - coaches' discretion as to which of the alternate skaters to enter in each round.
If I have any of this wrong, I'd welcome a correction!

Here are the most current details if you want to follow the Championships with us this weekend: Sheffield is 5 hours ahead of Eastern time; 8 hours ahead of Pacific. This link shows the current time schedule for racing: www.arenaticketshop.co.uk/whats-on/isu-world-short-track-speed-skating-championships/Friday 11th March - Ladies & Mens 1500m 1pm Doors Open 2pm Opening Ceremony & Heats Begin 6.15 Awards Ceremony & Close of Day (This would be 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific - Friday morning) Saturday 12th March - Ladies & Mens 500m 1pm Doors Open 2pm Heats Begin 5.50pm Awards Ceremony & Close of Day (Again, this would be 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific - Saturday morning) Sunday 13th March - Ladies & Mens 1000m 12 noon Doors Open 1pm Heats Begin 5.15pm Awards Ceremony & Close of Championships (This would be 8am Eastern, 5am Pacific - Sunday morning) EDIT: We 'spring forward' (time change) on Saturday night, so by my calculations, this will end up being the same Sunday start times in the USA as on Friday & Saturday: 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific. We'll be following the ISU data feed at the following link: www.sportresult.com/federations/ISU/ShortTrack/ISU should be posting the official schedule at the above link sometime on Thursday - check this link for last-minute changes before you set your alarm clocks! Tony Chung will be at the competition, and he may be Tweeting and/or giving text updates on his UStream feed (sorry, no video). Here are his links: Twitter: twitter.com/shorttrackhdUStream: www.ustream.tv/channel/shorttrackhdIf he's giving updates, you'll see a chat feed on the right side of the page. Several people are still checking to see if CCTV will be streaming video (from China) - if we get links, we'll post them on this thread. I'll be in Wausau for Nationals/AmCup Final, but the competition times will be pretty 'time-zone-friendly' to me, so I'll be here for our Live Chat during the World Championships! Guest posting is enabled on this thread, so please join us!

Hey, I just got this Google Alert! Might it be a possible video feed? It says "A station is available and will appear here from 10:20 on the day of the event." www.myp2p.eu/broadcast.php?matchid=108458&part=sports------------------------ This link that Dose posted upthread might also be a possibility - she said: www.worldshorttrack2011.co.uk/The website has a "NISA TV" in the "Merchandise", I don't know whether have a Live window in NISA TV? -------------------------- There was something I posted on page 1 of this thread from an article about the WC that said: Ken Pendrey, director of operations and chair of the Organising Committee said: "I'm confident that this World Championship will be a most exciting and thrilling event for not only the home spectators, but for the millions of short track fans from North America and Asia who will be watching the event on live TV. The link to that article isn't working anymore, but I'll try to dig it up again. BUT it tells me that they're planning to make SOMETHING available - let's hope!

Here's a more detailed schedule of events with - also in () is the number of heats in each round. This doesn't have a date on it, so I'd still advise checking the ISU site for their times before you go to bed Thursday night. So I checked the WORLD CLOCK online at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday CST
It is 3:35 PM Tuesday in London
If 1400 is 2 p.m. Friday, Sheffield Time; then they start here at 9 a.m. CST Friday? Really?
Correct me if I'm wrong, 'cause I never seem to get this right!

Correct me if I'm wrong, 'cause I never seem to get this right! You're correct that England is 6 hours ahead of Central time, but you need to do your 2pm math again. I believe it would be 8am for you. A much more hospitable hour than some of the last competitions! With no repechages, B Finals, etc., it'll only take about 4 hours or so each day to get the racing done, so most of us will be able to walk away from the computer by the lunch hour! ------------------------------- Here's some (possible) good news!Tony took his video equipment to Sheffield, and even though he can't film, he's saying that he MIGHT be able to stream CCTV's coverage onto his UStream feed! Let's keep our fingers crossed!

One other thing to consider - I just realized that this Saturday night we move our clocks forward.
This means that for Sunday's 1pm start time, England will be four hours ahead of Eastern, instead of 5 (7 hours ahead of Pacific).
If my math is right... the time change should negate the 1-hour-earlier start time on Sunday - so the start time would still be 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific on all 3 days.
