Southwest Airlines is offering some web specials (LAX to SLC - Dec 15-20 for $106 each way). They've just recently opened up mid-December bookings, so availability is wide open right now.

Now that the World Cups have been set, I'm wondering if the dates of WC's 3 & 4 (the first 2 weekends in December) are of concern in setting the date for US Championships. Two WC's in December hasn't happened since USS started holding USC in December. If they have USC on Dec 16-19, that's 3 major competitions in a row for the National Team. They can't put it off till the following week, 'cause that would include Christmas Day - I suppose they could hold it in January...

Okay, folks - we're back to 'on again'... again. The competition is currently - as of July 2, 5:31pm - no longer listed as *tentative* on the USS schedule.
I took advantage of the good SWA fares last week and bought my ticket to SLC. I fly enough that I knew I'd be able to bank the ticket and use it later if things changed.
I'm really looking forward to this event. It's where I saw my first competition in 2007, met some 'forever' friends, and truly fell in love with the sport - Good Times!
For those who are thinking about going, here's some info that may be helpful:
The schedule shows a start date of Dec 16. The only thing going on Thursday is 'skate-in' 9-lap (1000M) time trials. To make a long story short, this gives skaters who are not already qualified a last chance to make it into the event.
Friday is the do-or-die time trial day. This narrows the field to the top 16 per gender who will compete in Saturday and Sunday's races.
So... if your time is short, and if history holds true, be aware that the bulk of the competition happens on Saturday and Sunday - and if you must leave on Sunday, get the latest flight possible!

Contact Anthony at the Hilton Garden regarding questions on room rates for the event. He usually takes good care of us. I know it's a bit early, but I think he was looking for an idea of what the head count would be for the event.

I just got this in my e-mail travel alerts for Salt Lake City. Please note what is #2 for exciting things to do: us.mc1803.mail.yahoo.com/mc/welcome?.partner=sbc&.gx=1&.tm=1282320615&.rand=006upte13lvpv#_pg=showMessage&sMid=17&&filterBy=&.rand=1201662939&midIndex=17&mid=1_9324099_AE8Pw0MAAXE4TG4S7AxD%2FDMCUMg&fromId=alerts@yahoo-inc.com&m=1_9328571_AEMPw0MAADLGTG4l1gkYWmScNoY,1_9327800_AFIPw0MAAXrgTG4lywTh%2ByuaiYo,1_9326869_AEUPw0MAAGX2TG4liAcc2BA96BE,1_9325915_AFEPw0MAASouTG4lew6Axl8pklw,1_9325065_AEMPw0MAAVDOTG4cGAMv53gi%2F%2BI,1_9324099_AE8Pw0MAAXE4TG4S7AxD%2FDMCUMg,1_9323265_AEUPw0MAASdZTG4Rig6EYyNJAxc,1_9318897_AFIPw0MAAPn7TG3Q5w1FfAxOtn0,1_9315628_AE8Pw0MAARB2TG3A4AlXxAcKT2c,1_9314920_AEgPw0MAAU5lTG209A4peUMVV2s,1_9314236_AEkPw0MAAAi6TG2pnQ8NMVUSH%2Fs,&sort=date&order=down&startMid=0&hash=2cabda23d05465bb943c5b03649b1ef5&.jsrand=1498291 ...that's right folks. #2 on the hot list of must see, things to be sure to do when visiting Salt Lake City is... ...wait for it.... Visit the Utah State Wine Store Bwahahahahahaha! We're not in Kansas anymore Toto! But thanks Utah for the reminder. Note to all who are going to US Championships. If you want a glass of wine at night to unwind after a long day of watching short track, be sure to bring it with you! (and a corkscrew too, you won't be finding those either.) And now I gotta rethink those job searches in Utah. Ya mean I can't just buy a bottle of wine at the grocery store??? ...Noooooooooo???!!!...Mind you, I'm no candidate for AA, but between being a native Californian - one who is also in driving distance to Napa - and Italian to boot...this just seems wrong. Very wrong. But hey, this made me laugh, so just had to share. ;D ...now if you'll excuse me, I need to go re-double my resume sending efforts...in Massachusetts...

...about those corkscrews. You can't buy them at the wine stores for sure. So your next stop is Albertson's to buy the corkscrew. Then you leave the corkscrew behind for the hotel staff! Then you do it all over again on your next trip. LOL moments for sure.

Has anyone been able to find info about tickets for the event? In the past there have been some sessions that have sold out - it would be awful to fly all the way to SLC and not be able to get tickets! Please post if you hear anything - I haven't had any luck yet...
