Many of our skaters are put up for honors that are based on polls (such as USOC's Athlete of the Week polls). They come and go so quickly that sometimes we don't have much time to respond.
In addition, now and then we'll hear about contests that revolve around these athletes - sometimes through their sponsors, sometimes run by the skaters themselves on their Facebook/Twitter pages, or on their personal websites.
We DO want to support them, so I've created this thread for y'all to post any polls or contests that you're aware of - you can also copy to the skater's individual threads for maximum exposure!
Don't forget to include the date (if known) when the poll/contest ends!

Let's get it started with this contest that I just posted on Katherine's thread - I don't know about y'all, but I'm going for this one! KATHERINE REUTTER Contest Last Day of Contest: March 13, 2011 Winner Announced: March 14, 2011 Words to Sweat by - a sponsor of Katherine - has put together a Countdown to Worlds Contest. For the next 7 days - starting today - Words to Sweat by is going to pose a question to you, her fans, about Katherine for an entry to win a World-Class Words towel with her mantra every day this week. ( With some pretty cool autographs that will be the envy of anyone who loves short track!) Below is a cut and paste of the contest and rules, but to participate in the contest you have to go to this website: www.wordstosweatby.com/world-class-words-athletes/root-for-reutter-countdown-to-worlds-contest-day-1. Watch this thread or Katherine's FB/Twitter each day this week for the new daily link.So let's get started! And good luck :-) --------------------------- Root For Reutter: Countdown to Worlds Contest (Day 1)by Dana on March 7, 2011 Katherine Reutter's Words to Sweat by Katherine Reutter is ranked #1 as she goes into the World Championships this weekend. We’re extremely proud to sponsor her and therefore want to acknowledge this wonderful accomplishment. We are therefore holding a “Countdown to Worlds” contest throughout this week to celebrate Katherine and show her how much support she has as she skates to take the top spots in her events. As always, we like to have fun here at Words to Sweat by, so we’re going to pose a question to you, her fans, about Katherine for an entry to win a World-Class Words towel with her mantra every day this week. But wait, there’s more! Katherine has an impressive 2800+ fans on Facebook and 2600+ followers on Twitter, so we know that not only will her fans come out to comment, but they’re sure to tell their friends. For this reason, we also want to offer a grand prize based on how much noise we can make in support of Katherine by spreading the word online. If we reach a total of 300 comments throughout the course of the countdown, the grand prize will be an, “If you rest, you rust” towel with not only Katherine’s signature, but also as many World Championship speed skating signatures as Katherine can get before the season ends. So let’s get started! Since a good warm-up is always necessary before a race therefore, we’re going to start with an easy question and they’ll get more difficult the closer we get to the competition. Question of the Day: What is Katherine’s favorite food?Contest Rules- To enter the contest, leave a comment with your answer below the post with your answer to that day’s question.
- Only one entry, per person, per day. More than one entry per person per day will result in disqualification.
- This contest is open to fans worldwide. Void where prohibited.
- Each winner will be chosen using a random number generator from the entries with the correct answer for each day of the countdown.
- Winners will be selected and announced on March 14th, 2011.
- Winners will be notified via email and given 24 hours to respond therefore please leave a valid email so that you can be contacted if you are the selected winner.
- The grand prize will be awarded if the prize requirement of 300 or more total comments is met.
- The grand prize winner will be selected from the total number of entries throughout the countdown using a random number generator. If you have entered a valid answer each day of the countdown, you will have five (5) entries in the grand prize drawing.

Note: Apparently you can answer previous days' questions after the new days' question has come out - so if you missed yesterday's question, you can still catch up! Yesterday's question has 37 responses so far - at that rate we won't hit 300 comments, and none of us will get that towel! C'mon, people, let's get going with those answers! ----------------------------- Root For Reutter: Countdown to Worlds Contest (Day 2)by Dana on March 8, 2011 Thank you to everyone who participated in Day 1 of our contest. According to her fans, it appears Katherine’s favorite food is a toss up between mac ‘n cheese or chocolate. Find out the answer next week when we post the results. We’re now on Day 2 of our countdown to Worlds and today’s question is about the speed skating talent that comes out of Illinois. Question of the day: Which two Olympic medalist speed skaters are also from Katherine’s hometown? Here's the link to respond to today's question: www.wordstosweatby.com/world-class-words-athletes/root-for-reutter-countdown-to-worlds-contest-day-2

Root for Reutter: Countdown to Worlds (Day 3)by Dana on March 9, 2011 We’re now in Day 3 of our countdown to Katherine Reutter’s World Championships and apparently the question for day 2 was something Katherine’s fans know a lot about. Today’s question is definitely something that will make you think. We already know that Katherine has the winning formula so today’s we’re testing your knowledge about how many times Katherine has been on the podium at Worlds. Question of the Day: How many World medals has Katherine won? Here’s the link to post your response: www.wordstosweatby.com/world-class-words-athletes/root-for-reutter-countdown-to-worlds-day-3

Root for Reutter: Countdown to Worlds (Day 4)by Dana on March 10, 2011 It’s Day 4 of the Root for Reutter countdown and World Championships are fast approaching. Katherine had an interesting proclamation after winning in Vancouver that resulted in the picutre to the left. So today’s question will not only honor whimsy, but also seek to send Katherine the sweet taste of victory to end her season. Question of the Day: How many scoops of ice cream did Katherine eat after her silver medal win in the Vancouver 2010 Olympics?Sidenote about Day 3: We realize that yesterday’s question wasn’t specific enough therefore we are accepting correct answer for all World medals and total World Cup medals. Here's the link for today's question: www.wordstosweatby.com/world-class-words-athletes/root-for-reutter-countdown-to-worlds-day-4------------------------- From Laura: I believe that the answer to the question is on Katherine's thread here at BB!

But the speed skater's more affable nature comes across on Twitter, with which he's quick to interact with and dispense advice to his fans. "Intervals!!!" Ohno wrote to one follower. "Research shows Tha higher intensity intervals are great for endurance training." Good to know. He's also not afraid to poke fun at himself. In one tweet, he wrote, " 'Hi mr. Onkyo?' um..actually it's Oh-No. 'oh right..Mr. On-Ho, my name is ____etc'. Me - 'ok.' " #timesMyNameIsWreckedPerDay

Let's help 'em out! Remember this fun video I posted in mid-July of the skaters 'Bouncing'?
'Like' it and they'll win $100!
Here's what to do: Go to Airborne Trampoline Arena's FB page - then look on the right side of their Timeline for Recent Posts By Others. You'll see it in that section as a post from Andrea Dehnke.
You don't have to 'Like the Page - just the video!
