We'll be following results from Bulgaria here on this thread! For LIVE action - aka, the infamous 'Blinking Numbers': www.sportresult.com/federations/ISU/ShortTrack/This is the ISU Sportresult site - when racing is happening, you'll see a Red 'LIVE' clickable link. NOTE: Bulgaria is 6 hours ahead of Eastern Time, 9 hours ahead of Pacific Time. The current schedule shows: Friday, March 16: 12:30pm (BUL) = 6:30am (Eastern); 3:30am (Pacific) Opening Ceremonies 1:00pm (BUL) = 7:00am (Eastern); 4:00am (Pacific) 1500M (Ladies and Men) Awards Ceremony Ladies' Relay Semis Saturday, March 17: 12:30pm (BUL) = 6:30am (Eastern); 3:30am (Pacific) 500M (Ladies and Men) Awards Ceremony then Men's Relay Semis Sunday, March 18: 11:00am (BUL) = 5:00am (Eastern); 2:00am (Pacific) 1000M (Ladies and Men) Awards Ceremony 4:45pm (BUL) = 10:45am (Eastern); 7:45am (Pacific) 3000M Superfinal (Ladies and Men) Ladies' Relay Final Men's Relay Final Awards Ceremony For more info, see the official website from Bulgaria (in English): www.2010wstssc-sofia.com/

The 1500M Heats lineups are up on SportResult: www.sportresult.com/federations/ISU/ShortTrack/Use this same link to find LIVE (data only) lap-to-lap results. When there's LIVE racing, you'll see a LIVE button to click. IF YOU'RE HAVING TROUBLE WITH ISU'S LIVE LINK, try the following: 1) The screen refreshes automatically every 10 seconds - if you're getting a blank screen, or if it seems that racing should have started and you're just seeing a header with the name of the race, try clicking the LIVE button again - sometimes that works. 2) If the above doesn't work, you can do a manual version of LIVE results... on the Results Page, next to each Heat #, you'll see a clickable link called 'Splits' - click on that and you'll see a data feed similar to what you'd see on the Live Results page. The difference is that it won't refresh automatically - you'll have to refresh the screen yourself. For a shot at live video: Tony Chung has found some links for watching LIVE, with instructions for logging on. Stay tuned to ShortTrackHD for updated info: www.shorttrackhd.com/WorldChamps2010.htmlThe TV Stations you'll be looking for are CCTV-5 (Chinese station # 10007) or KBC SBS (Korean Station # 81037) Another possible link for results (from Tony): Radio Canada - is.gd/aQdxP - click on WEB DIFFUSION link It looks like the men will be skating Travis Jayner, Jordan Malone and JR Celski, with Simon Cho and Kyle Carr as alternates/relay skaters. For the ladies, it'll be Alyson Dudek, Katherine Reutter and Kimberly Derrick, with Allison Baver and Lana Gehring as the alternates. See the next post below for scoring info...

If my memory serves me correctly, most countries are only allowed 2 entries in each event - USA qualified the maximum of 3 because of our performance at last year's World Championships.
In order to qualify 3 skaters for the next year's competition, a country must have at least 2 skaters in the top 16 with at least one of them earning Final Points (i.e., making it into the Final). There is a separate computation for each gender.
The 3 skaters per gender chosen for this weekend's competition is at the coaches' discretion, but it must be the same 3 skaters all weekend. They can't have different skaters for each event as in World Cup competition. Therefore, the 3 skaters chosen are the ones that the coaches feel are the best all-around skaters at the moment.
THE SCORING:
Skaters in the 1500M, the 500M and the 1000M Finals will gain points based on the following scale (assuming it's the same as last year):
1st - 34 2nd - 21 3rd - 13 4th - 8 5th - 5 6th - 3 7th - 2 8th - 1
After all 3 races, the top 8 skaters who have earned Final Points (per gender) will skate in the grueling 3000M, which often determines the overall winner. In order to keep this race from going at a snail's pace at the start, there is a bonus of 5 points awarded to the skater at the lead after the first 1000M (9 laps). FYI, these 5 points made the difference between first and second place for the Ladies last year!
The relay is raced as a stand-alone event - coaches' discretion as to which alternate skaters to enter in each round.
If I have any of this wrong, I'd welcome a correction!

I'm expecting some new people here this weekend, so FYI:
You'll find that while anyone can READ here, many threads at Boots and Blades are restricted to members-only for posting comments (primarily the individual skaters' threads). Guests are welcome to post on several boards and threads - including this one - so please join in the conversation!
If you're new and have questions about how the board works, just post them right here for now (don't worry about going off-topic) - it'll be the quickest way to get an answer this weekend, 'cause this is the thread we'll be monitoring the most.

Who's here with me? The 'LIVE' button is up on Sportsresult, but no action yet (unless it's malfunctioning) - looks like the men are up first... I'm going to try Tony's video links..

Travis advanced in 1st place in his heat, but something happened to Jordan in the last lap - he was in 1st, but finished 6th, well behind the leaders - hopefully he's okay.
EDIT: The Japanese skater was DQ'd - Jordan may be advanced because he was in 1st place right before that.

Heartbreaker for Jordan. He pulled up from the last into first and then ---whoosh! Would love to be able to see that. I'm sure he'll talk about it on fb.

Hi, '19' - still waiting to see if Jordan might get advanced - would they have done it by now? If he was in 1st place, it seems that he would...
