Hey, not only did USS not use the B & B forums name, but it got a mention and a link right to it on their new blog. (Does that make us famous...or just infamous?) We'll be waiting to see the new website.

USS launched its new, re-designed website today! They hope to engage fans more with this website - that's always a 'plus'!! I haven't explored it completely yet - have y'all had a chance to look it over? www.usspeedskating.orgHere's an article about the launch: Struck Breaks The Ice With New Website For U.S. Speedskating TeamWebsite Launch is Capstone for Complete Team Rebrand in Anticipation of Appearance at 2014 OlympicsBy Struck / Monday, Aug. 20, 2012 - 9:31 am www.sacbee.com/2012/08/20/4741436/struck-breaks-the-ice-with-new.html..."For the website redesign, we wanted not only to integrate the new branding, but also to create a dynamic and intuitive user experience that would excite USS members and engage fans. From US Speedskating - March 19, 2013 - 11:12 AM EDST
Dear Members,
US Speedskating announced this morning that Mike Plant has been named as President of the Board of Directors. He takes over immediately. As many of you know, Mike is a former speedskater and member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team. He is currently the Executive Vice President of the Altanta Braves and recently finished a term on the U.S. Olympic Committee's Board of Directors. You can find more information about this new appointment on the homepage of the USS Website. Although Tom Frank stepped down as President, he will still finish his term on the Board. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Tom for guiding us through the last several months and for all he has done for US Speedskating. Please join us in welcoming Mike.

And here's the link: www.usspeedskating.org/node/1093Welcome Mr. Plant. Your credentials are most impressive. So now that the process has begun, will we see more changes in the structure at USS too?

"My focus for the organization will be on building a support and service system for our elite level athletes, and working on developing our athlete pipeline. Another priority is to tackle our governance and management reform. These are the two key pillars I am going to zero in on immediately."
With all due respect, but we'll believe it when we see it...
So what's everyone's take on this news? Hope and change for a brand new day?... or just another 'insider' pedaling Same Ol' sh*t, different day?...

It's gonna be a tough row to hoe in the best of circumstances, more so with all of the special challenges of an Olympic year. I'm inclined to keep an open mind and be fully supportive unless we see evidence to the contrary. Best of luck to Mr. Plant! (Lordy, he's gonna need it)

I too will withhold judgment and hope for the best. I did like his cryptic comment to Mark Greenwald in the Tribune.
Success depends on Mr.Plant surrounding himself with a highly skilled and competent team who place no value on ego and personal agendas. In short, he needs a NEW team! I foresee a lot of "sucking up" to the new guy in the next few weeks and during the Spring Board meeting! Hope he's a good judge of character and able to call out the "dead weight".
Mr.Plant knows he has to produce results and produce them quickly - so I look forward to some immediate changes. Snark Alert - of course the bar is set so low, he doesn't have to do anything too mind-boggling to effect "improvement".

LOL Joyce--That bar is so low, I don't think a contortionist could do the limbo using that bar?

Yes, you'll have to copy & paste this link (as well as any others where the entire link isn't highlighted in blue). Under our old Proboards format, I could manually insert URL 'tags' to make links like this work - but I haven't figured out how to do the same in the new format!
