Hi Lori, She's called Brenda Herder. A 15 year old dutch shorttracker. Check her facebook profile! Ciao Wouter www.sebrasports.comThank you (or should I say 'bedankt'), Wouter - I hoped someone would come through with the info! I've had the chance to meet a couple of Dutch skaters who train in Southern California - very nice young men, and of course we have Wilma Boomstra coaching here. I'd like to encourage you or any others who have photos or articles about the Dutch team to share them on 'The Netherlands' thread at: therockerforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=worldst&thread=392We'd love to learn more about them!

Thanks, Manon, and welcome to Boots & Blades! We'd welcome any news about the Netherlands skaters - some of them have trained with our Southern California club, and I enjoyed watching them compete this weekend in Montreal!

I'm happy to see this article about coach John Monroe! He has coached Apolo Ohno and Shani Davis in the past, and he'll be coaching 5 women and 2 men for Team Netherlands in Vancouver. Monroe is a very good coach. I'm sure he'll do well wherever he goes next. The Dutch have a strong team, and are 'knocking on the door' to the next level. It'll be interesting to see their progress over the next few years - best of luck to them! So Otter coached Silovs and De Deyne? Cool.

Interesting look at short track training for 'cornering'. You don't need to know Dutch to appreciate it.
Anybody know which skater this is?
I like the quote in English at the end, "If you do what you did, you'll get what you got"...

Dutch skaters did very well in the Olympic qualifying World Cups - they'll be sending relay teams to Sochi for both the men and the ladies. Their team gets deeper each year, and their fans are SO enthusiastic! Dutch Coaching ApproachAn ISU video

The incident between Sjinkie Knegt and Victor An at European Championships has been pretty widely publicized in the press - here's one take on it that made me chuckle: So Why Was That Angry Speed Skating Guy So Angry?by Tom Ley / Deadspin.com / January 20, 2014 Sjinkie Knegt, an Olympic-bound speed skater from the Netherlands, graced us this weekend with the greatest speed skating photo of all time...Read it all: deadspin.com/so-why-was-that-angry-speed-skating-guy-so-angry-1505286865

I remember years ago seeing a double-row start in ST (most likely in a 1500M race) - Jorien Ter Mors stood head and shoulders above the other ladies and I remarked, "Man, that girl is TALL". (She's 5'11) Well, she's standing REAL tall right now! Coming off winning the European Short Track Championship just 1 month ago, and making history by competing in both ST and LT in the same Olympics, she is now a LONG TRACK Gold Medalist! (And setting an Olympic Record in the process - on a slooooow track). Pretty freakin' amazing! Ter Mors steps up to smash Olympic 1,500m speed skating record and spearhead a historic Dutch 1-2-3-4When the last racers crossed the line the 24-year-old, who, remarkably, also competed in the short track at Sochi 2014, raised her arms in triumph and could not hold back her emotions.
“I'm not used to these kinds of situations,” admitted an emotional Ter Mors. “In short track you know immediately if you have won. Now I had to wait and it was very nerve-wracking.” Read it all: www.olympic.org/news/ter-mors-steps-up-to-smash-olympic-1-500m-speed-skating-record-and-spearhead-a-historic-dutch-1-2-3-4/224833
