I love this part:
Shortly afterwards something clicked. "You see a lot of Olympians do three Games and finish in the same place every time," she says, with matter-of-factness not malice. "I didn't want to be one of them, so I decided I needed to change everything. Diet. Exercise. My whole approach. I went from being a normal teenager to a proper athlete who motivated myself and set my own goals."
It's interesting to see how other nations' programs work from training to funding.

I've neglected The Rest of the World lately! Here's an article I've had tucked away for a few weeks: Christie claims bronze in SochiElise Christie was once again on the podium at the short track speed skating World Cup as she picked up her sixth medal of the season with bronze in the Olympic host city of Sochi. Yup, I posted the blog link just upthread - but thanks for the reminder, I haven't checked it in awhile! Here's another fun bit, and I'm seeing good coverage of the ST team: Team GB competes in epic snowball fightBritish Winter Olympic hopefuls compete in an epic snowball fight as part of a team-building exercise ahead of the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia.
BBC Sport's Nick Hope speaks to athletes from all 12 winter sport disciplines, including speed skater Elise Christie, skeleton racer Lizzy Yarnold and the men's curling team, as they come together for a 'snow battle' session in Bath. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/winter-sports/23659069

I had no idea that Alex Whelbourne (now Stanley) is married to men's ST skater Paul Stanley (though I did assume she was related to Jack W)... Speed Skating - Stanley wants Britain's women to get it right ahead of Sochi qualifiersAlex Stanley is stressing the importance of Britain's women's short track speed skating team getting it right from the onset as they bid to secure an historic place at the Sochi 2014 Olympics.Yahoo Sports / 7 hours ago Britain has never fielded a women's relay team at the Winter Games and need to be ranked in the top eight once the results from the two World Cup Olympic qualifiers are combined.Read it all: uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/speed-skating-stanley-wants-britains-women-get-right-114902240--spt.html
