I’m expecting to do pretty well,” Skrocki said. “I haven’t been home since June, so it was very nice to be close to home for the competition.” While home, Skrocki has been able to see a lot of friends, and she said she is excited that they will get a chance to watch her compete this weekend... Rachel has retired from competition, but here's a nice article about what she's doing now. The link will show that "an error occurred", but scroll down - the article is there... Former Bay City speed skating star Rachel Skrocki finds new role as mentor to kidsBy Susan Vela | The Bay City Times / May 18, 2013 A bike ride up a Utah canyon soon after she arrived for training near Salt Lake City led to a significant groin injury. More mental and physical agonies followed.
She didn't give up. The 2009 Bangor John Glenn High School graduate pushed, reaching eighth at the 2012 U.S. Short Track National Championships.
But her injury wouldn't go away. One day, Skrocki's entire right side was tingly and numb, triggering fear that she had suffered nerve damage. She worried it could ruin her chances for the big Catholic family she always wanted.
"I didn't think it was worth wrecking my body," she said of her decision to no longer suit up for competition.
So she set aside her Olympic dreams and returned to Bay City, where today she has a new career and a new role in the speed skating community.Read it all: www.mlive.com/sports/bay-city/index.ssf/2013/05/former_bay_city_speed_skating.html
