Does anyone have any idea where WC2 may be held in Toronto? I've looked as far as early 2000s but it appears Toronto has never(?) held an ISU ST event before.

Does anyone have any idea where WC2 may be held in Toronto? I've looked as far as early 2000s but it appears Toronto has never(?) held an ISU ST event before. I took a quick look myself but didn't see anything obvious, even when I Googled 'speedskating venue Toronto'. I did see mention of a place called the MasterCard Center as I was checking out the Toronto Speedskating Club... Surely somebody will read this & know!

A former Canadian racer tells me he "assumes" WC2 will be held in the same 4-plex building where their 'Junior Team Trials were held last March'. If so, that's a little west of TO in a sprawling municipality called Mississauga. Apparently the Toronto Maple Leafs NHL franchise trains there. But that this is the site is nothing official, it's just guesswork-logical.

Thank you moonbeam - it looks like a really nice venue! ISU will generally post a link (eventually) with definitive info about the World Cups - we'll keep watching for that. I suspect that Toronto would be an attractive location for some of our fans who travel to the competitions!

Toronto is a pretty great, and very clean, city - known derisively as the uptight "Big Smoke" or "Hogtown" to non-residents. It is also the scene of decades-long serial blunders resulting in their hapless Maple Leafs (hockey franchise) rarely making Stanley Cup playoffs... despite big payrolls, hot-shot recruitments and top coaching expectations. Ever polite, hockey-crazy Canadians widely regard the "Make Beliefs" to be a national joke on themselves. Even Torontonians do too! But, likely because of its continuing habit of investing in "lost elephants" (like the SkyDome, and the now-distressed MasterCard Center) the "Bread Not Circuses" contingent handily prevails whenever the next wave of Summer Games bulldogs tries to impose one of the diciest gambles on the financial capital of the country.
There is a lot to like in TO, but you gotta go downtown to get it. But might as well room there and pack picnic lunches during racing. Car is the fastest way to get to the rink - Google modes have public transit [many options] clocking in an hour... although I'd use the GO train from Union Station, to a neighborhood bus... as there are not many stops, and a lot of the elapsed time is waiting on connection, which can be people-watching fun.
But that's if the WC actually happens in the darn-near-bankrupt "Center for Excellence"! I would imagine that the ISU seeks seriously tangible assurance that the 100x200 part of the facility will actually be operating in November... and not shut down in a classic shoot-themselves-in-the-foot operating cost cutting stay-afloat frenzy. After all, the Maple Leafs are the major tenant, and they've got their priorities straight!

If their smart they'll hold it at the Hersey Centre in Mississauga. It's a beautiful facility.
