Kazia actually came to our attention back in July, 2011 when we started posting some info about her on our 'Future Stars' board. Now that Kazia is skating at AmCup level, I'll start her thread by copying that info here from the FS Board: Kazia Emily-Carol CooperU.S. Olympic Education Center Age 14 I've really enjoyed reading this young lady's FB Blog - she arrived at the USOEC on June 13, and has been giving short updates often. Here's the link: www.facebook.com/pages/Competitive-Edge-Speed-Skating/210942808944863She's gotten to know many of the skaters we follow here at BB - she seems to get along especially well with Kimberly, Jordan and Barry. It's fun to see Kazia's perspective about her training. I'm not sure if you have to be a FB member to read, but it's worth a 'like' - she's very positive, and enjoying the journey! I wish she had been on my 'radar' then, 'cause I was there, and would have liked to meet her! Cooper decided not to spend the summer in her hometown of Big Rapids, Mich. Instead, she is training for her new sport.
After figure skating for 11 years, Cooper was told by her coaches, “You’re good, but you’re fast. Why don’t you try speedskating?”Read More: webb.nmu.edu/SportsUSOEC/SiteSections/News/News.shtml?articleID=109385&team&display=short&category&IsNewsBureauTags: Kazia Emily-Carol Cooper / Short Track Speedskating ---------------------- More about Kazia... her story as a figure skater with a 'need for speed' reminds me of Katherine Reutter - and I love the references to Kimberly Derrick. If I was the parent of a well-grounded 13-year-old who was training away from home for the first time, I'd be comforted with someone like Kimberly watching out for her... But when the 13-year-old speed skater got a call from Marquette’s Olympic Training Center, plans changed. The Big Rapids resident has been figure skating since she was 3 years old, but after a suggestion from her coach to switch to speed skating, her life changed.
