Awww, they didn't bring enough silver medals out for the podium ceremony, so J.R. skipped his & had them give the last one to Eddy (it's Eddy's first relay medal). I noticed that in the final group picture, they had gotten one for J.R. Okay, that's all for this weekend! The next major competition for USA skaters will be American Cup 1 in Saratoga Springs, NY (Nov 2-3). Goodnight!

For those interested this YouTube channel has posted the finals some semis and the finals from world cup 2: www.youtube.com/user/lgs1083/videosIt also has videos from world cup 1, the 2013 world championships and world cup 4, 5 & 6 from last season. I know the icenetwork didn't work the first night and I don't know if the videos are available on the icenetwork but if they're not then here's another option to watch them. The races from last night haven't been posted at this point but I think they probably will be. Enjoy!

Ahhh.....tbe delicious irony of it all. Written off by the Korean contingent, disrespected, fights in the airport, allegations etc. etc. and here comes Ahn Hyun Soo, aka Viktor An skating for Russia, IN KOREA, and on the individual podium all three times, including a gold. Ahn, arguably one of the greaterst skaters of his generation, is not washed up after the injury that kept him out of the 2010 Olympics. The Sochi games just got very interesting for short track. I wonder what comments Apolo will offer of his greatest rival??

Apolo will in all likelihood have nothing but admiration for what Ahn has been able to accomplish, particularly after a serious injury and the politics of yet another dysfunctional sport's governing body. As I understood it, Ahn's conflicts were not with his teammates or his country of origin, but those who were an obstacle to his success. I was at a WC where Ahn started competing for Russia - all of the Korean skaters greeted him warmly and treated him with great respect. There was no ill will.
While Ahn was a rival for Apolo, IMO - Apolo's greatest rival was "team skating". Apolo skated during a time of complete Korean dominance ( not the case now), usually the lone US skater in a quarter, semi and a final, in many cases up against 3 Koreans in the same race. I agree that Ahn is one of the greatest skaters of his generation - but again in IMHO he had the added advantage of team skating in several races. Perhaps this was not a significant factor, but we will never know.
I am hoping that NBC has the foresight to allow Apolo to interview 1-on-1 with Viktor, Charles Hamelin, and others within his competitive years. At this point I am just hoping that the PTB do not hire Ryan Seacreast for this job!!

Yes, Joyce! When I heard about An's injury, I was SO disappointed at the thought that I would never personally see him skate. I was blessed to be in Calgary last October when he won his first post-injury gold medal as a Russian, and the interaction between An and the Korean skaters was warm, and very nice to see. An was also very appreciative of the fans - bowing to all of them, but particularly the Koreans in the crowd who were cheering madly for him! It's also apparent that the Korean fans in KOREA still love him! It's quite impressive, actually, if you think about it... For instance, rarely does a Major League Baseball hero make a decision to switch teams, then get embraced by the fans of his FORMER team when his NEW team comes to town - he would generally be welcomed by a sound round of "boooooos". Not so with An! I really like your idea, Joyce, about Apolo interviewing An, Hamelin, etc. How cool would that be?
