CAPTION THIS!Now what do you suppose they're saying (thinking)? Anthony sat with us for awhile on Saturday - during the conversation, Anthony's friend Tom Congdon caught this funny moment... L to R: Deb; Karen; Anthony (Photo Credit - Tom Congdon) Karen: "@%$#!" Anthony: "CORN CHIPS!!!" (This is actually an inside joke, but it may not be too far from the truth, haha!) Deb looks like she's thinking, "Should I tell them they're about to be hit by the zamboni?"... (see reflection in the glass) Any other guesses? ---------------------------------- Tom Congdon Photography: www.photoreflect.com/store/store.aspx?p=238623

Anthony has taken this year off from ST to finish his education, but he's also taking time to 'give back' to the sport that got him started. Here's a nice video from Albany, GA taken (I believe) this past weekend:

Anthony was mentioned in this article about Katherine's surgery - he made a comment to her that was influential in her decision to end the season early and proceed with the surgery sooner rather than later: A painful decision for speed-skating star Katherine ReutterBy Tina Akouris / suntimes.com January 13, 2012 ...But it took a comment by former teammate and ex-Olympian Anthony Lobello to smack Reutter back to reality at the U.S. Short Track National Championships on Jan. 8. Reutter finished a disappointing fifth and her back pain was worsening.
“I was never in contention for a top-three spot and [Lobello] told me that he knew the pain I was in and he could see it,” Reutter said. “That was the turnaround point for me. I knew it was time to end the season. I’ve had this for over a year and I’ve dealt with anger, frustration and denial.”...Read More: www.suntimes.com/sports/othersports/9955902-419/a-painful-decision-for-speed-skating-star-katherine-reutter.htmlTags: Anthony Lobello / Katherine Reutter / Short Track Speedskating

Anthony is yet another skater our country has tossed aside - but this one had options... He is now the #1-ranked skater on the Italian men's team, and we'll be seeing him in the upcoming World Cups! Anthony has recently posted this blog entry on his website (back-dated to July 1) - he's having a wonderful experience in Italy and this is a heartwarming account of his summer: A Tale of Three CitiesMy last month was spent in three distinctly different cities. Each city lent me its perspective on the world and helped me to better understand where I am and what I still have to learn. I am lucky to have such a rare opportunity and have yet to let a day go by that I don't fully engage the beautiful culture I find myself in.Read More: www.anthonylobello.com/blog.htm----------------------------------- Here's a pic I took of Anthony and Swiss skater Jose Cavalli when my husband & I had dinner with them during our trip to Italy in May...

Please tell Anthony (if you have a chance) that I met his dad at the Oval and had some interesting chats about our younger days!

More congrats to Anthony - after this weekend's Italian Olympic Trials, Anthony finished in 2nd place and qualifies for the Olympics!
There is more work to do though... all of the countries now have to compete in World Cups 3 & 4 (in Russia & Italy) to qualify their countries' allotments for athletes to go to Sochi.

Interesting article about Anthony Lobello's move to Italy and relationship with Arianna Fontana. With his move he will become the first Winter Olympian to compete for the US at one Olympics and then compete for another country at a future Olympics. This isn't in the article but according to the Sochi website Anthony will not be competing in the individual distances but look for him as part of the relay. Anthony Lobello’s country switch a Winter Olympic firstOne U.S. short track speed skater from the 2006 Olympics made it back for Sochi. He’s not wearing the red, white and blue this time, though.
In Sochi, Anthony Lobello will become the first athlete to compete in a Winter Olympics for the U.S. and then a later Winter Olympics for another nation, according to OlympStats.com.
As an American, Lobello finished 23rd in the 500m at the 2006 Olympics and then failed to make the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team.
In 2012, he began dating Italian Arianna Fontana, the 2010 Olympic 500m bronze medalist. Also that year, Lobello saw an opportunity to compete for Italy as a dual citizen since his paternal grandfather is Italian.Continue reading: olympictalk.nbcsports.com/2014/02/02/anthony-lobello-short-track-speedskating-usa-italy-arianna-fontana/

Nice article! I was pretty sure Anthony was skating the 500M, but you're right - the schedule doesn't show it.
