Good Q & A with Kimberly Derrick: athletego.com/2013/06/12/kimberlyderrick/Here are some of the questions Kimberly answers: You’ve had a long and successful career in Speedskating for some time now. Talk a little bit about the sacrifices you’ve had to make to pursue your dreams and what makes it all worth it in the end?Sochi is right around the corner! Tell us about how training is going both on the ice and any specific training you do on dry land. What are your best memories from the Winter Olympics in 2006 and 2010 respectively?OK, so this will definitely give you a sense of how OLD I am, but I grew up loving to watch Olympic Speedskating on TV and distinctly remember Eric Heiden growing up ☺ First, do you know who he is? Second, what Athletes, Olympic or otherwise did you admire growing up?What do you love most about Speedskating? Least? What sport aside from your own would you most like to have gone into and why?Do you follow a rigid nutritional program or can you basically eat whatever you want because you’re young and train like a superhuman? How, after all these years, of training and competing at such a high level do you stay motivated?Any pre-race rituals, routines or superstitions?Plus, some just-for-fun questions!

Here is Kimberly's GoFundMe link if you'd like to donate: www.gofundme.com/28b88oOne Last GoGraham Sweeney / Collierville Independent / August 16, 2013 Last month, Derrick was one of many American athletes to have her stipend cut by the U.S. Olympic Committee. Where Derrick once received a monthly check for $1,250, she now gets $600 to pay for training, equipment and living expenses.
“That,” Derrick said last week, “is not a lot.”
Since the 2010 bronze medal winner practices eight hours a day, six days a week, the possibility of securing full-time employment is practically inconceivable.
“Becoming an Olympian takes a lot of time, hard work, dedication and commitment,” she said. “Holding down a steady, full-time job is almost impossible.”Read it all: collierville-news.com/2013/08/16/one-last-go/
