World Championships, Debrecen-Hungary, 3-9-2013, DAY TWO:
500M Semifinal raceJ.R. was leading all the way but, unfortunately, he fell as he came around in this next pic! It looked like he hit a patch of "dirty-ice" when I watched the slow-motion replay! The arena erupted in a huge moan of disappointment for J.R.!

World Championships, Debrecen-Hungary, 3-10-2013, DAY 3:
1000M Final race:In the photo below, it appears to me that Charles Hamlin might be slipping, from my vantage point, and J.R. is further behind Charles. In any event, it was a very tight cluster of 4 skaters! J.R. had to try for the GOLD!

Here's more about The Otherside - a good article, and a nice pic of J.R., too! Olympic speedskater J.R. Celski documents Macklemore and Seattle hip-hop in 'The Otherside'By CASEY J. OLSON Federal Way Mirror reporter May 16, 2013 · Updated 1:28 PM J.R. Celski's timing must be impeccable when he's on the race track. Everything must be in perfect sync for the world-class short track speedskater to glide across the ice...
...But Celski's current timing might be even better off the track. His documentary, "The Otherside," is debuting at the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) next weekend. It will be shown at the SIFF Cinema Uptown in Seattle at 7 p.m. May 31, and again at 8:30 p.m. June 2, as part of the "Face the Music" program.
Directed by Daniel Torok, the 47-minute film takes an inside look at the Seattle hip-hop scene and centers on the meteoric rise of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, the local artists responsible for the documentary's title.Read it all: www.federalwaymirror.com/news/207632411.html

Check out the 5 photos in the gallery attached to the article - I LOVE the one where Coach Wilma is showing a photo on her iPhone of J.R. as a kid! Federal Way speedskater's road to Sochi goes through Californiaby ALLEN SCHAUFFLER / KING 5 News / Posted on June 28, 2013 at 11:18 AM ...He says the kids give him energy.
"Every time I'm around them, it's awesome," he laughs, flashing that easy grin. "It makes me wish I was young again!”
Young again. He's 22.
But it is clear that the teenage Celski who made it to the Vancouver Olympics against all expectations and all odds is gone. He’s replaced by a more thoughtful and experienced young man...Read It All: www.king5.com/sports/JR-Celski-speedskater-training-213548431.html

J.R. truly is 'the real deal', and his prospects for making the team and success in Sochi have never been brighter! It has a nice video to accompany the article. New, mature JR Celski 'ready to step up' for Sochi Gamesby ALLEN SCHAUFFLER / KING 5 News / July 8, 2013 ...His long-time coach Wilma Boomstra sees a new, mature JR making a push for Sochi. JR has rededicated himself to his sport in a way she hasn’t seen before.
“His whole approach to training, his approach to lifestyle, nutrition, everything around him. He’s doing the whole package now,” she smiled with pride. She has been a second mother to him since JR moved to Southern California to train so many years ago. “He’s a pro athlete now.”
