This photo was from last year's photo shoot by Brian Nicholson for USS, which went into USS's media guide and calendar. Amazing website and photos by Nicholson Photography: nicholsonphoto.com/index2.php?v=v2Apolo Anton Ohno, Anthony Lobello (what looks like Jeff Simon) and Travis Jayner Brain's caption from the photoshoot This is the US Men's Speed Skating team. In the lead is Apolo Anton Ohno who you may remember from 2002 Winter Olympics fame. I had a lot of fun shooting this assignment since the skaters were very comfortable with the camera and seem to have a great time hanging out with one another. Oh, and they are very serious about their skating. -BN Posted by Nick@Nite at 2:39 PM

Can I say "I LOVE THIS GUY!" My nickname for him is 'Mr. Personality'... The summer 2009 issue of the Racing Blade came out, and Travis is pictured in an article called 'Overcoming Performance Anxiety'... No, it's not what you think, peeps - it's an article by sports psychology consultant Nicole Detling Miller, PhD about skaters who 'perform exceptionally well in training, but cannot maintain that high level of performance in competition' - and Travis obliged for the cover photo! ;D

Team Travis T-Shirts'Fun Comes First' is Travis' personal motto, and a message that he stresses to young club skaters that he coaches in summer camps. Here's a chance for you to become part of Team Travis as he prepares for Vancouver 2010... If you're going to World Cups 3 or 4 in Montreal or Marquette, see Travis' mom Lyn to purchase one - but hurry, they're almost gone! There are just a few available in adult sizes. There is one Large, 3 extra large and 3 XXL. They are $20 each. If you're not attending either event, but would like a shirt, contact me at lori@rocker-u.net, or PM me here at BB, and we'll try to work something out... This is what they look like (the design is on the front): And a picture of Travis' brother Alex wearing one of the shirts:

Source: www.freep.com/article/20091112/SPORTS17/911120466/1356/SPORTS/Jayner-having-career-year-on-icePOSTED: NOV. 12, 2009 OLYMPICS Travis Jayner having career year in speed skatingBY JO-ANN BARNAS FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER Short-track speed skater Travis Jayner was training when he spotted the group from across the ice. The family was on a cross-country driving trip from Midland last summer when it stopped to check out the U.S. Speedskating national team facility in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jayner skated over to say hello. He recognized the family as members of the Midland Speed Skating Club -- Jayner's home club. "I think they thought it was pretty cool," he said. Here's the twist: Jayner, 27, never has been a resident of Midland.
However, he has represented the MSSC -- with pride, he says -- for as long as he has been a member of the U.S. short-track national team.Jayner, 27, was born in Riverview, New Brunswick, to American parents and holds dual citizenship. When he decided to represent the U.S., Jayner said it was Ryan Bedford and his family who turned him on to the Midland Speed Skating Club because of the club's strong support system. Bedford, of Midland, is currently competing on the U.S. World Cup team in long track after having secured a spot at last month's Olympic trials. Jayner, meanwhile, is in Marquette for the second time in three months. He'll compete beginning today in the final ISU World Cup event that will determine the number of short-track athletes the U.S. Olympic team will take to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Jayner, who has competed in various competitions in Midland and visits when he can, placed fourth overall at the U.S. Olympic trials in September at Northern Michigan's Berry Events Center. The top five men and top five women from that competition qualified for the World Cup events -- the final determining factor for Vancouver. The Marquette World Cup runs through Sunday. "For me it's been a career year," Jayner said. "This is the best I've ever done in terms of results."Last weekend, Jayner won his first individual World Cup medal when he took third in the men's 1,500 meters behind Canada's Charles Hamelin and Korea's Sung Si-Bak in Montreal. This week, Jayner is rooming with five-time Olympic medalist Apolo Anton Ohno."To skate with Apolo, he's probably the greatest ever," Jayner said. "Being able to have him pushing me -- and for me to be able to push back -- I know those steps have gotten me this far."

Katherine Reutter Joins the 2010 Team for Tomorrow Humanitarian Relief Fund US Speedskating December 17, 2009 Three-time U.S. short track champion and 2010 Olympian Katherine Reutter (Champaign, IL) has been invited to be an Athlete Ambassador for the Team for Tomorrow Humanitarian Fund, created by the USOC and U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes in 2008.
"Getting involved with Team for Tomorrow gives me a way to give to back," Reutter said. "I think all athletes are interested in giving back in any way possible, but with our hectic training and competition schedules, sometimes it's hard to find the right program. Team for Tomorrow makes it easy to get involved and to also come together as teammates representing the USA."
In the spirit of the holiday season, Reutter, along with 2010 Short Track Olympians Travis Jayner (Midland, MI) and Alyson Dudek (Hales Corners), WI) and speedskater Patrick Meek (St. Louis, MO), is demonstrating her belief in giving back. The skaters will visit Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 1:30 p.m. to give the medical center 10 digital cameras and 5 notebook laptops for patients to use during their stay.
"It feels good to be in a position where I can make a difference," Jayner said. "I've always looked up to the national team as a skater coming up and it's nice being in a position where I can put a smile on children's faces."
Team for Tomorrow is a humanitarian relief effort through which U.S. athletes offer assistance and support to people around the world who are in need. Humanitarian relief and assistance takes place in the form of donations, volunteerism, disaster recovery support, advocacy and other contributions to communities. The program offers U.S. athletes a way to stay connected to sport in a meaningful way, finding new significance in what it means to represent our country
Reutter and the Team for Tomorrow will also connect with Habitat for Humanity affiliates in their hometown following their return from the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. U.S. athletes will donate service hours, building houses in partnership with families in need and giving back to their local communities throughout the United States.
The 2010 Team for Tomorrow class of Athlete Ambassadors represents all eight winter National Governing Bodies and U.S. Paralympics. The Athlete Ambassadors serve as captains of Team for Tomorrow on behalf of the entire 2010 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams. The select group of athletes acts as advocates and champions of the effort, educating their U.S. teammates and spreading awareness about Team for Tomorrow's causes.
