Quick update from Omaha: Results: usspeedskating.org/sites/default/files/Day%201%20Results.pdfLots of great performances from last year's familiar faces in Age Group Racing, plus some new faces having a breakout year, including Glen Ellyn SC's Elise Brinich, who set 2 National Records In her Ladies' Masters Division. In The AmCup Final, Cole Krueger leads the men with wins in 2 distances, and Allison Baver has the same success for the ladies. Mtnme, you'll be pleased to know that I wore my Baver's Bada$$es pin, and she got a laugh out of it! Other fun facts: There was a shortage of volunteers, so Ryan Leveille and National Team coach Guy Thibault were chasing blocks, pushing ice brooms and wrangling water buckets ALL day long! They seemed to be having a good time 'pitching in' to help. *thumbs up* Unfortunately, there were some crashes of note. Casey Mullarkey crashed with another skater, whose blade cut him badly enough that he needed to be transported to the hospital via ambulance. The good news is that I heard he was in good spirits as he was being wheeled off the ice - but I haven't heard any updates. Also, a very unusual crash - a novice block chaser didn't 'look both ways before crossing', and caused a significant enough crash that the race was stopped. I know it happens, but it was the first time I've personally seen it! No significant injuries, though. An unexpected pleasure was having the chance to meet Bridie Farrell - I only spoke to her briefly, but she's a lovely young woman and thanked us for the support she has gotten here. I was a finish line judge for the morning session, and I had such a blast that I'm doing a repeat performance tomorrow morning (the butternut squash soup reward was more than worth it) - which means I need to be at the rink at the butt-crack of dawn, and must get to bed. G'night!

Thank you Lori for the update! It looks like Allison had a great day on the ice. (It must be the pin...LOL) So sad about the crashes and hospital runs, but hope all is well with no serious injuries.
Have a great time. Wish I was there!

Got an update about Casey - Lots of stitches,, but looking a bit better than some of the other 'cuts' we've witnessed in the past. So bummed for him, 'cause he was starting out really well for the weekend!

Well, the competition is over, but Deb & I aren't through with the restaurants in the Old Market District. One more dinner together to 'ring in' the off- season! Congrats to Allison Baver and Cole Krueger, who won the OVERALL titles for the weekend, and to Allison Baver and Keith Carroll, who won the Overall titles for the entire AmCup Series! Safe travels home to everyone! Here's the most recent link for results (the one listed upthread no longer works): www.usspeedskating.org/sites/default/files/Day%203%20Results.pdf

Here's a local article about the meet (with a nice pic of rising stars Shaner LeBauer & Michael Koenig). Omaha did a really nice job, especially for a first meet. The Omaha Sports Commission has hosted some really big-time events recently (Olympic Swimming Trials, Pro Rodeo, Track & Field, and even the US Figure Skating Championships) - so with one ST competition under their belt, I'm sure things will just get better & better! It's nice to have a venue in the heartland that's willing and able to host major competitions. The people were great, and Deb & I both agreed we'd go back to Omaha in a New York minute!
