Rumor has it that USA is NOT competing in Shanghai. First I heard of this was a late-night Tweet by Tony Chung. He speculates that it may be because WC4 is too close to US Championships. This is plausible, 'cause they've skipped WC4 in the past for this reason (though it wouldn't be far-fetched to assume budget constraints as well). Deadline for final entries is Dec 2 (today). When the list is up - and it should be soon - you'll find it at the following link: www.shorttrackonline.info/live.php?comp=822&list=competitors

Yup, the list of entries is posted, and USA is not on it. www.shorttrackonline.info/live.php?comp=822&list=competitorsInterestingly, Hungary & Canada have submitted more than 6 names per gender (only 6 can compete). Italy is baaaaack! As is Vladimir Grigorev (RUS). Annnnd Jose Cavalli (SUI) who lived with us for a summer (he didn't compete in Nagoya).

There will be a couple-hour break when the Repechages are over, then the Medal Rounds for the 1000M(2) and 500M distances (and the Relay Semifinals) will follow:
1:02AM (Sunday Morning) Eastern, 10:02PM Pacific (Saturday Night)
The final races will probably be over at around between 5 & 6AM Eastern, 2 & 3 AM Pacific
An interesting twist to this World Cup is a new event that will take place just after the Relays - a 'Madison Point Relay'. They had a tryout at the end of WC2 in Montreal. Looks kinda cool!
Here's a YouTube video of the race in Montreal:
