Well, the Wi-Fi at the rink was spotty, and I used up most of my battery just trying to connect. I finally decided it was pointless. It doesn't look like anybody's posted results yet, so I'll try to decipher my notes in a separate post to finish off the day for those who check in later! mtnme... Well, you won't have to see 'The Kid' again 'till next year, haha! lilyover80... we were sitting very close to Tony's right. A bit closer to the 'end zone' than we usually sit, and there was glass between us and Tony, so you wouldn't have seen us!

According to the USS rules, J.R. Celski, Alyson Dudek and Lana Gehring WILL be on the World Cup team because they won the A Final in one of the distances:
(From the AmCup1 'Selection Procedures' section)
Skaters placing first in an individual World Cup distance (500m, 1000m, 1500m) at the selection event will earn a berth on the World Cup team.
The rules also state that of the 6 skaters per gender (12 total) who may be placed on the World Cup team, there may be TWO discretionary selections per gender.
If I'm reading this right, it means that at this time, there are 3 remaining spots that are automatic for the men, and only 2 for the ladies!

The top 4 spots are automatic - the final 2 are discretionary picks.
For the Ladies, the 4 automatic slots go to:
Lana Gehring Alyson Dudek Katherine Reutter Jessica Smith
For the Men:
J.R. Celski Kyle Carr Jordan Malone Jonathan Garcia
The discretionary picks could go to anybody (including Simon Cho, who could get a Medical Bye) - but the 5th, 6th & 7th place finishers were:
Ladies: 5th - Emily Scott 6th - Tamara Frederick 7th - Kimberly Derrick
Men: 5th - John-Henry Krueger 6th - Travis Jayner 7th - Kyle Uyehara
They generally announce the discretionary picks within a few hours of the competition - I'll post them if I hear anything!

Just in time for the new season! :-) My condolences on your family death - very sorry to hear that. Re: Fancy Pants mobile - a few more months, and I might (finally) have the same. I've gotta wait out a current contract that was not of MY choosing!

Kimberly has been concentrating on college this year - she's in a 'good place', and she's still very much in the mix for Sochi 2014. Travis got his bell rung pretty badly on Sunday and withdrew from the meet. Coming off one of his best years ever, I'm not surprised that he was a discretionary pick for the Asian World Cups. Jordan's performance was SO impressive - battling back from injury to finish THIRD overall! Are you coming to SLC for World Cup, sk8er?
