As I mentioned above, next season's World Championships will be in Russia, and World Juniors will be in Japan, but there's some buzz around that one of the first 4 World Cups next season will be in the USA (I would guess Salt Lake City) - and that Single Distance Championships (World Cup Qualifier) will be in October in Milwaukee. Does anyone have further info or confirmation on this? Any word on other competitions? I keep checking USS & ISU, but nothing is out yet - not even provisional allotments.

Well, get ready for the Reign of Ahn, and concomitant good skating by the Russians. Just please Ahn, DON'T, take off your shirt!

A couple of 2014-2015 season short track competitions have been listed on the Utah Oval website: One of the Fall World Cups will be hosted on Nov 7-9; and the Desert Classic (a prominent season tune-up event that often draws international skaters) will be held August 16-17: utaholympiclegacy.com/events-at-the-oval/This also lends credence to my earlier post that Single-Distance Championships may be in Milwaukee this year, as it's not mentioned in the Oval's fall schedule.

The rumor is that WC4 will be held in Seoul December 19-21. I'm also hearing Seoul(Korea) will host at least one event each year leading up to the Olympics.
I hope more US cities would host these events. Orlando would be great especially in winter. Montreal in March was brutal.

USS has added some dates for domestic competitions to their calendar: www.teamusa.org/US-Speedskating/Events?&page=1I have merged this new info and some that others have contributed upthread into the Original Post (OP) on this thread. That OP will be updated whenever new info becomes available. There is also a new event that has been generating some interest - the Apolo Ohno Invitational, to take place in SLC on November 21. From what I understand, it is an international event that will include athletes from USA, Canada, China and Korea. If anyone knows more about the specifics of this event, please update us!!!

Awesome. Thanks for the updates. Now I have to think about which event I should go. Decisions decisions decisions... 'Bro'-Time in Salt Lake City is a big deal to me (my big bruddah - an outdoorsman & photographer - lives there), so those competitions always hold greater weight. Another bonus is that I can drive there if the weather's good!

It looks like that AAO is only a single day event(?). If that's the case, I will opt for the WC instead. Also I've never been to Utah so I think I will make it a week long trip and do some sightseeing. This is one of the things I regret when we went to Montreal in March. We stayed there only for the weekend and it was pretty hectic.
How is the winter in SLC?

THANK YOU, dk!!! I've edited my OP with the updates. You asked about SLC in the winter - it's beautiful, especially if you squeeze in a trip to Park City while you're there! Early November may be a little too late for 'fall color', but possibly also too early for snow (always a consideration for me, raised on warm-weather roads). But you never know. Never been to Utah? You're in for a treat - it's an amazingly scenic state. My drive from Cali is one of the most beautiful drives in the country, IMO... I wish the AAO Invitational well, but if I had to choose, I'd definitely opt for the World Cup - it's like a little 'mini-Olympics'. It will definitely be in MY travel plans!

So I went ahead and booked my trip to SLC. I have a few questions if you guys don't mind answering... How much were the tickets last time this sort of events were held? Are seats assigned? Also would the races on Friday be open to the public? The Oval appears to be a speed skating rink. How is the viewing experience there for short track events? TIA
