This thread is totally devoted to Paul Dyrud, and is intended to be an archive of his skating career - as well as a place to chat about his accomplishments and encourage him as he pursues his goals both on and off the ice.
If you have any articles, photos, links and news about Paul (past or present), we'd love to see them!
Some of the info gathered here will be used for Paul's bio page on Rocker-U. (see www.rocker-u.net/index_of_skaters.htm ).If you are a non-member who would like to contribute news, photos, archives or comments, please feel free to contact us at:lori@rocker-u.net or michelle@therockerfund.org

Paul is one of several skaters who also competes in Long Track. In recent years, he has concentrated on a very promising LT career, but he still competes in ST - most recently in American Cup II this past season (Nov '08). Here's a photo of Paul leading Jeff Simon (back in the days when Jeff was wearing the SoCal colors...). Paul finished 7th in that competition, and a very young Jeff finished 15th. I hope all the Dads in our membership (and readership) had a wonderful Father's Day! USS' Skate Left blog posted a great tribute to a very admirable dad, Paul Dyrud. Paul is a Long Track skater, but back when we started our forum, he was still skating in some ST American Cup competitions - which is why we have a thread for him. Does anybody know if Paul ever made Cat 1 in Short Track - or did he ever compete in Jr. World Championships or on a World Cup/World Championships team in Short Track? It seems like an oddity that Paul's thread is on our Farm Team board, even though (according to the article) he just barely missed the 2010 team in Long Track! Anyhow... good article, and WOW, what a schedule this guy keeps! Good luck, Paul, as you go into this Olympic Season in LT! Oh, and note upthread the one ST photo that I have of Paul - look who's skating with him... based on the date, Jeff would have been about 19 at the time! ----------------------- Paul Dyrud: A 2014 Olympic Hopeful and a DadIn honor of Father’s Day we wanted to take a moment and focus on one of our athletes who manages to train, coach, compete and go to school all while finding the time to help his wife raise their two children.Read it all: skateleft.com/2013/06/16/paul-dyrud-a-2014-olympic-hopeful-and-a-dad/

A nice article about Long Track skater, Paul Dyrud (who skated ST when we started this forum): One final speedskating lap for Plymouth's DyrudBy: RACHEL BLOUNT / Star Tribune / December 6, 2013 - 12:25 AM After retiring in 2010, Paul Dyrud decided to make a last run at the U.S. Olympic speedskating team.Paul Dyrud felt he had reached the end in 2010. After 16 winters on the long blades, life was calling him to pursuits other than speedskating: his new marriage, a baby on the way, a coaching job, preparing for medical school. “Honestly,’’ he said, “I would have been fine if I had never skated again.’’
Yet the Plymouth native was still gliding around in circles last week, practicing under the lights — and in the snow — at Roseville’s John Rose Oval. Dyrud’s wife, Abby, sensed that he had more to achieve after falling just short of making the U.S. team for the Vancouver Olympics. With her encouragement, Dyrud ended a two-year retirement and put off medical school to take one last shot at making the Olympic team, a father of two chasing his own childhood dream.Read it all: www.startribune.com/sports/234691351.html
