Congrats to Dan.
Sorry Lori & Mtnme that you played "name the skater" with just the two of you. However, it was quite entertaining. I can just see you guys at future events. Instead of pics of friends and families on your phones, it will be head shots and bios of the skaters. :}

LOL, gasp. I'm glad you were entertained by our sheer cluelessnes! ;D Actually, the skaters are probably the only people I DO get photos of! (my whole family hates having their photos taken, so it's usually a covert operation to get a shot! My friends aren't much better....) The skaters, on the other hand, are used to this. ....except the video of the shy skater Lori posted awhile back.

Just noticed this - Dan's papa (Dan Sr.) is one of the referees for Trials, and mom (Donna) is a Competition Steward. This family's gonna be B-U-S-Y in Marquette!

Dan skated in the 9 Lap Time Trial at US Championships, Dec 16-19 in Salt Lake City – but he didn’t make the Top 16. He did get to compete the rest of the weekend in Group B, meaning that he gained some valuable racing experience, but was not eligible for the US Championship. Here are his Group B Results: 1500M – 1st (B Final) 500M – 4th (B Final) 1000M – 2nd (B Final) 3000M – 6th (A Final) Dan (#254) leads Brett Perry, Alex Hopp and Mitchell Conley at US Championships, 2010. Dan competed at American Cup 3 in Midland, MI (February 12-13, 2011). Here are his results:
14th Overall 1500M – 4th (B Final) 500M – 2nd (D Final) 1000M – DNS (E Final) 1500M Superfinal – DNS
Dan apparently fell in the 1000M, which may have accounted for the DNS'.

We're sorry to say goodbye to Dan the Skater, but we'll still be seeing him as Dan the Official! We saw him on the ice last weekend in his navy blue coat. I'da liked to have gotten a photo - but my camera battery died unexpectedly! Speedskater Takes Next StepBy Mike Kaurala, USOEC Operations Director / March 14, 2012 MARQUETTE, Mich. – United States Olympic Education Center short track speedskater Dan Fiorenza is traveling to Green Bay, Wis., this weekend with 10 team members for the 2012 Short Track Age Group National Championships/American Cup Final. But he isn’t going to compete. Read the entire article: www.nmu.edu/sportsusoec/node/332?articleID=171049&Fiorenza, a Northern Michigan University senior from Wausau, Wis., recently traded his competition skates for a whistle after suffering a knee injury that forced him to retire. Following in his father’s footsteps, Fiorenza became an official – the youngest in U.S. Speedskating’s history. “I wanted to find another way to be involved and to give back to the sport I’ve been in for the last 17 years,” said Fiorenza. “This will be the second event I’ve attended as an official. Being a former athlete, I’ve got the experience of being a competitor, knowing all the tricks and being able to see things from two different views – an athlete and an official”. Not ready to walk away from the sport he started when he was only four years old, he also volunteers to help coach the junior athletes on the USOEC team. “I chose Northern Michigan University because it gave me the chance to continue skating and receive an education,” said Fiorenza. “My sister also came to Marquette to skate and attend NMU. I wanted to help her and other junior athletes on the team.” Fiorenza will earn a degree in economics in May and he will attend law school following graduation. He plans to continue being an official and he aspires to make it to the World Cup circuit in the future.[/img] Tags: Dan Fiorenza / Short Track Speedskating +++
