This thread is totally devoted to Walter Rusk, and is intended to be an archive of his skating career - as well as a place to chat about his accomplishments and encourage him as he pursues his goals both on and off the ice.
If you have any articles, photos, links and news about Walter (past or present), we'd love to see them!
Some of the info gathered here will be used for Walter's bio page on Rocker-U. (see www.rocker-u.net/the_varsity2.htm ).

From Joyce on the Guest Board (I thought it should be copied here to Walter's thread):
My flight out of Marquette on Sunday morning began the exodus from Trials - with weary skaters, coaches, officials, fans, friends and family members at the gate area. Among those traveling back were relatives of JR including his grandmother. Walter Rusk was also there. Each of JR's relatives went over to Walter to extend their thanks and a warm embrace, most meeting him for the first time.
While we are reminded of the great dangers in this sport we love, so too are we reminded of the great moments of humanity it brings.

Walter is the newest Featured Skater at Rocker-U.net! This has been 'in the works' since before Olympic Trials. However, after many people saw and heard about Walter coming to J.R.'s assistance after his injury, they're understandably wondering who he is and wanting to know more about him - so IMO the timing couldn't be better! See www.rocker-u.net/featured_skater.htm

Last weekend, Walter participated in an event with LA84 Foundation - his dad Ron explained what it was all about: The day was all about exposing these kids to various sports that LA84 is involved with. There were 2 sessions of 10 classes each that did a circuit to be exposed to various sports. Walter was explaining speedskating and what he wears and how he skates. He then showed them a video of Jr. Worlds in Italy. After that he took a class pic with each group and then took them through a mini dryland workout. He also handed out "Speed Tickets" that invited the kids to come and skate one night for free. One of the little boys that got a "Ticket" came to the rink tonight to skate. It was community out reach for LA84.Lori's Notes: I love the "Speed Ticket" idea!
