Here's a short video where Katherine talks about her decision to retire last year and coaching young skaters in Milwaukee.
Reutter helping others go for gold
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - The Winter Olympics start in less than a month. That's when more than 2,500 athletes from around the world will go for gold. Champaign-native Katherine Reutter was planning to make the trip to Russia with Team USA, but as WCIA 3's Bret Beherns reports, the short track speed skater turned down that opportunity and made the tough decision to retire a year before the Olympics.

jreutter98 - somehow I'm just now seeing your post. Thanks for sharing! Here's another gem that I just got in a Google Alert this morning: Injuries turn Katherine Reutter from speedskater to coach at 25By Gary D’Amato of the Journal Sentinel / January 28, 2013 She should be on her way to Russia. At 25, she should be at her athletic peak, strong and confident and poised to add to the two medals she won at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Instead, Katherine Reutter will be watching the Sochi Games on television...
..."I had a really short but a really sweet career," she said. "Most people can go to two or three Olympics. I got one, but it was a great one. So I have no regrets. I really don't."Read it all: www.jsonline.com/sports/injuries-turn-katherine-reutter-from-speedskater-to-coach-at-25-b99192332z1-242322461.html

Katherine skated quite well at Am Cup1 in SLC this past weekend; I wish there was a way to share some of the video; She made 2 double passes; the first was to win the 1500 on Sat.; a nice pass but she sat on the other skaters and attacked on the last lap when they were tired; the second was the semi for the 1000; for some reason usspeedskating had stacked her heat like a final(her Jessica and Kimi); on about lap 3 she dropped to 3rd; it looked like she was going to fail as we have all seen skaters not be able to pass when the speeds of a race reach maximum; on lap 8 she drops deep into the corner, turns up ice and sneaks between the blocks and lead skaters passing both lead skaters just coming out of the turn; I have never seen anyone make that pass before; desperation or inspiration it worked; yes I am bias but it was a thing of beauty and you had to be there to understand.

I wish I could have been there - I was thrilled to hear Katherine was skating again!
