Jacqueline is the younger sister of World Cup skater Sarah Chen. At this time, she trains with Southern California Speedskating Association under coach Wilma Boomstra.
Jacqueline is one of the youngest skaters we’ve ever created a thread for here at BB (she skated Midget Division at last year’s Nationals – to do that you could not have been over 12 on July 1, 2010).
Jacqueline competed at American Cup 3 in Midland, MI (February 12-13, 2011). Here are her results:
11th Overall 1500M – 3rd (B Final) 500M – 1st (D Final) 1000M – 4th (B Final) 1500M Superfinal – 4th (B Final)

Congrats, Jacqueline! Whiz Kid of the Week: Jacqueline ChenFind out what makes this Whiz Kid special By Vivian Chan / March 9, 2011 sanmarino.patch.com/articles/whiz-kid-of-the-week-jacqueline-chenJacqueline training at the Olympic Oval in Salt Lake City – Summer, 2010 (see more photos below) Each week San Marino Patch names a Whiz Kid of the Week. This can be a kid, teen, sports team, Girl Scout troop, etc. from San Marino who is amazing in some way. We are asking for your nominations for Whiz Kid of the Week, so suggest a special San Marino kid, teen or youth group in the comment box below! Read more about nominations here. This week’s Whiz Kid of the Week is Jacqueline Chen. Jacqueline attended Carver Elementary School and is now a student at Huntington Middle School. At Huntington, Jacqueline is a member of the GATE and honors program where she excels in academics as well as the youth orchestra, where she is a cellist. - Whiz Kid's Name: Jacqueline Chen
- Whiz Kid's Age: 14 years old
- Whiz Kid's School: Huntington Middle School, 8th Grade
- Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Jacqueline is an honors and GATE student who is nationally and internationally competitive as a speed-skater and cyclist. She also plays the cello.
- Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: It is one thing to excel in athletics, academics and music, but to take the time to impart one’s experience, knowledge and understanding onto others is a testament to one’s character. The key to Jacqueline’s awesomeness is how she’s constantly investing in younger generations. Even though she’s only 14 years old, she takes time to tutor the younger skaters at the Santa Clarita Speedskating Club. From setting national records for speed skating, to winning medals in track, to even playing in the school orchestra, it seems there’s nothing that Jacqueline can’t do. Despite her success she remains humble and rooted in her family. Through laughter and tears, the sharing of memories from traveling around the world and home again, Jacqueline constantly reminds herself that the time enjoyed with the family is the most precious.

Jacqueline traveled to Melbourne, Australia to compete for Team USA at the Junior World Championships (February 24-26, 2012). She didn’t skate in individual distances, but she did participate in the relay, where the Ladies finished 3rd in the Semifinals and did not advance. I heard that the team had a great time in Australia - congrats to Jacqueline for making her very first Jr. World team! I couldn’t find a picture of Jacqueline skating in Melbourne, but some other great photos from the competition can be found on ISU’s Facebook photo albums at: www.facebook.com/home.php#!/media/set/?set=a.216355588461949.44597.145517225545786&type=3 Tags: Jacqueline Chen / Short Track Speedskating
