Tony Chung will be Tweeting, blogging and filming at the Desert Classic event this weekend! This year's competition is particularly important because it's one of the last opportunities for skaters to qualify for Olympic Trials before the August 28 deadline. To qualify, the 1000M must be skated in 1:38 or faster for ladies; 1:30 for men. Last year's results show that there's usually quite an impressive turnout of skaters, including teams from Japan, New Zealand and Australia - webpoint.usspeedskating.org/files/Event_PDFs/866_Event_OtherDoc.pdfI see that Derek Para and Tony Chung skated last year too! Tony won't be competing this year, but you will see plenty of other familiar names, so if you want to follow along, check Tony's twitter at: www.twitter.com/shorttrackHD

OK, Lori's out of town, and I admit it, I'm slackin'! (I cannot tell a lie...I was up too late last night having fun....) Tony's already up and running with the Desert Classic. I sooooooo wanted to go to this too, as it's relatively close by, but the thing was just too close to Oly Trials, just couldn't swing it. But Thank God for Tony!!! Anyway, without further ado....here is what Tony has tweeted so far. Some of these skaters are using this competition as their time trials to qualify them for Oly Trials. Some are obviously already qualified, but competing anyway. Good Work Mntme! Thanks to you I found Tony's blog again...for some reason, it wasn't updating most of the afternoon ...but when I clicked on your link I got his Desert Classic page instead of the Van. Oly Trials page...finally. I absolutely love your forum! I'm learning even more about short track thanks to you and Lori. I knew about Rocker U. because I visited it when it first went up, but hadn't been back since then and didn't realize you had a forum. It's a pleasure to get short track news in general, specifically about the U.S. skaters, and even about other countries..One stop shopping for short track. What an amazing amount of work you both have done. It will be my first go to place in the months running up to the Olympics, the U.S. trials, and the world cups! I am ever so grateful... Musical MOm

Thanks, Mtnme for being here in my absence - and to Tony for being our eyes and ears at the Oval. And a BIG congratulations to the skaters who qualified for Marquette - WOW! We'll be waiting to see your names on the 'list'! The Desert Classic will most def be on my 'must attend' list in years to come. If the airlines aren't cooperative($), I can drive - and I can save even more money by staying with my brother. How can you beat that? (And MM - love ya, and thanks for the kudos!)
