I have just recently started Short Track, and I am looking to buy my own pair of speed skates. I am trying to keep the cost of the blade and the boot below $600. I have taken a look at the Bont Jet, the LG SK-100 and LG SK-20 (anyone know the difference between the two?). For blades I have been looking at the Maple Premium and the Maple Chrome. I've noticed the Premium is way less expensive than the Chrome. Should I avoid the Premium?
Are there any recommended boots/blades that are affordable but of good quality that I have missed?
Much appreciated, Jordan

Hi, Jordan!
We'll ask around and try to help you with this - check back on this thread over the next few days, okay?

Well, we in the Southern California Speed Skating Association personally have been having very good luck for years with Mario Debartolo of Special Equipment Company. I'd say direct your questions to him on the phone. He shows up with a complete line of equipment at the National Championships each year. He is very direct, and can be trusted. His website is here: www.specialequipment.com/Jerry

I've found two packages that sound promising, the first being the Bont Jet with the Maple Chrome, the other being an LG SK-20 paired with a Maple premium. The SK-20 looks like the better boot, the Chrome looks like the better blade.
The prices are about even. Any thoughts on which way to go?

Jordan - unless someone else posts here with additional info to help with your decision, I'd take Jerry's advice and give Mario a call. In checking his website, it looks like he deals with both types of blades, and the Bont boot that you're looking at.
It doesn't mean you have to buy from him - just tell him Jerry referred you to him for advice, and I'm sure he'll be happy to help! ;D And who knows, you may get a great deal 'to boot'!

Hey, Jordan - if you're checking in, did you decide on a boot/blade combo?
