A propos nothing Ted and I were with friends in Victoria B.C. recently for a week's vacation. Can you say clean? The cuteness factor was "10"and I've never seen so many flowers....and Canadians really ARE nicer! We encountered only one jerk; a driver who sped around my car in crowded trafic in front of the Empress Hotel. Otherwise I'd say: grab one of those nice boys and bring him home

Its beauty and character remind me of an 'international' version of San Francisco. Some of the info I received there also make me want to visit Victoria!

Forgot to add - Tony is also Tweeting from the event. If you missed the live broadcast, you can 'catch up' at: www.twitter.com/shorttrackhdHold onto this link (and the above Ustream link). I'm holding out great hope that Tony will be Attending/Tweeting/Streaming from AmCup1 as well - no pressure, here, Tony. (Okay, well, I lied... 'pressure here' - JUST DO IT!)

Racers vie for World Cup spots Postmedia News / September 18, 2010 www.calgaryherald.com/sports/Racers+World+spots/3543669/story.html#ixzz0ztwRWnEg Canada's top short track speed skaters began quests to qualify for the fall World Cup events at the Olympic Oval on Friday. Charles Hamelin of Ste-Julie, Que., Marianne St-Gelais of St-Felicien, Que., Francois-Louis Tremblay of Boucherville, Que., and Valerie Maltais of La Baie, Que., each won a distance. Athletes will race each distance (500 metres, 1,000 metres and 1,500 metres) twice. The athletes with the most points in each distance will automatically qualify to race the World Cups, and Speed Skating Canada's (SSC) High Performance Short Track Committee will select the rest of the team, for a total of six men and six women.

Can I just say how much I love Tony (without sounding like a creep-ster)? It's so exciting being able to see short track again. And from someone who actually knows how to work a camera. I recommend you all join in tomorrow - Wim, both Kyles, and Nic Bean were in the chat today. So awesome! :]

Does anyone know for sure who won the automatic spots for the team this weekend? Tony posted a link to results on his Twitter... www.twitter.com/shorttrackHD... but looking at it, I'm confused as to who actually gets the berths - my understanding is that the winner of each distance (after combining points from 2 races at each distance) gets to go, and a selection committee decides the rest. But it looks like there were ties in some of the distances. Who got those calls? And if one skater wins 2 or more different distances, does that mean the selection committee gets an additional pick? One more question: When will the selection committee announce their choices for the remaining slots?

Well, I have an answer to my earlier question, thanks to an e-mail from a friend! Speed Skating Canada says on their website that the skaters who qualified for the Fall World Cups are: MEN Charles Hamelin Michael Gilday Olivier Jean WOMEN Marianne St-Gelais Valerie Maltais Marie-Eve Drolet Remarkably, St-Gelais finished first overall, despite sitting out the 500M events due to an injury earlier this week. The remaining team members will be selected by committee within the next week, but have not yet been announced. However, the article also says that Olivier Jean has declined his spot: "Jean is however not planning on racing the first World Cup events this Fall, as he now wants to remain in Calgary and take part in the Long Track Fall World Cup Selections next month."Read More: www.speedskating.ca/index.cfm?id=2312Tags: Short Track Speedskating

Remember the Red Mittens from the Vancouver Olympics? They've come out with a brand new design for fall, and you can even register to win a trip to the 2012 London Olympics: For more info and to see a picture of the mittens: www.olympicfoundation.ca/campaigns/redmittens
