World Series Journey - My favorite Photo-Of-The-Day from each day since I left home: Day 1: As Larry packed for his flight and I packed for my drive, here's part of HIS packlist - the team bats! --------- Day 2: Layover in Salt Lake City with my brother. We watched movies (Girl Interrupted & Mr. & Mrs. Smith), critiqued each others' photos, listened to awesomely cool music, had lunch at Ruth's Diner, and took a hike to Willow Lake. He wanted to take me higher. "Better view", said he. "No", said I... --------- Day 3: Sunset in Montana. Heading east, looking west in my rearview mirror. Apparently, I was a 'drive-by' on two grizzly bear attacks that day. One in Sky Island, Idaho and one in Yosemite NP. I didn't hear about them until the next day, but I'm glad I didn't have car trouble, lol! (and, no I wasn't driving when I took this photo - I was parked very strategically on the side of the road) -------- Day 4: Our team chatting with Williston, ND hometown hero Phil Jackson during some downtime at the banquet. There's an El Segundo connection... When Phil coached the Lakers, he ate breakfast frequently at one of our local diners! -------- Day 5: Opening Ceremonies. Chief 'Voices of Stars' gave a blessing to all of the team managers with smoke and an eagle's wing. -------- Day 6: The winning pitcher against Texas, icing his arm post-game - "Happy, Happy, Happy"!

Day 7: Post-game relief after a HUGE scare! Final inning, losing 5-3, two outs. Scored 6 to win - NEVER GIVE UP! We overheard people talking about our comeback against Oregon all day... We are the only undefeated team, and the only one so far to clinch a berth in the single-elimination phase of the tournament - we clinched #1 in our pool, get the day off on Thursday, and play a 'best-of-third-place' team on Friday. Sweet!

Day 8: ♫ "Oh give me a home..." ♫ We had the day off on Tuesday, so Larry & I went to Theodore Roosevelt NP. Day 9: Lookin' pretty good! After pool play, we are the only undefeated team, and we got the day off on Thursday while the 2nd & 3rd place teams battled it out. Day 10: On our day off, we toured an oil field and had lunch at one of the hundreds of 'Man Camps' in the area. Then in the afternoon was the skills competition. Below is Justin, our entry in the Home Run Derby. We didn't win a single event, but all that matters is the 'events' that happen tonight and tomorrow night! We play New York at 7:30 tonight in the semifinals.

Day 12: This is how I spent my afternoon (with apologies to my ST 'family')... There are lots of World Series' going on right now, so let me 'splain... this isn't the Little League World Series going on in Williamsport, PA. These kids DID play Little League last year, and this is their first year after Little League. Babe Ruth League is a significant 'next step' after Little League for 'tween-ers' (those between Little League and High School - 13-15-year-olds). This was our little town's 13-year-old team. The significant thing is that this is their first year playing on a regulation-sized field. Traditionally, the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown displays the hat and jersey of Babe Ruth League winners for one year, and puts our name on a perpetual plaque! Just sent Larry off on an overnight bus ride to Fargo with the team, then they'll fly home. For me, a 3-day drive begins at dawn tomorrow - but I have a car-full of the team's trophies and a lifetime of memories!

Well, this isn't exactly non skating chat...but it's DIFFERENT skating chat, LOL.
On Francois Louis Tremblay's thread a couple of days ago about his retirement, I mentioned Paul Wylie. Wouldn't ya know, I happened to stumble upon this performance by Paul that he skated in - get this - 2012!!! Holy Smokes! Talk about you're never too old! Freaking amazing- he's almost 50! Skating to one of my favorite Josh Groban songs 'Believe'. (and now I really do need to get in better shape, 'cause there is obviously just no excuse...)

I was planning to dole out candy tonight to hundreds of Disney Princesses, werewolves, and Duck Dynasty look-alikes - but an unexpected turn of events had me (instead) sitting at a table in Hell's Kitchen with one of my favorite Short Track Olympians - Gordon Ramsay was lovely on the eyes, but the cameras also loved our absolutely gorgeous celebrity table-mate. I can't wait to see the episode! FYI - I've been home for 2 hours and I'm still seeing Disney Princesses. At this late hour, however, some of them have mustaches and grandchildren...

We're traveling again - a 2-day drive to Colorado to spend Thanksgiving with friends. We spent the first night in the Grand Canyon, but after arriving at dusk and leaving at dawn, we never really got to see it! On Day 2, we white-knucked it from Bright Angel Lodge to the East entrance of the Park - we were pretty much the only car on the road, and the snow got worse and worse as we drove. (BTW, we were in a Prius ) It was mostly rain or 'wintry mix' after that, and we arrived at our friends' house in Durango just as the snow started falling heavily. It hasn't stopped since, and is likely to continue for the next 12 hours. We're listening to the rumble of near-constant mini-avalanches coming off the roof, and the snow-pile buildup off the roof is 4-1/2 feet high in places - but it's incredibly, magically beautiful! Just a few hours after we arrived: Annnnnd - what we woke up to this morning:

What a difference a day makes! We crawled out, blinking and squinting, into sunshine this morning. It's clouding up again, though...
