I guess we'll all be watching Hines on Monday? Now you have another reason to try for tickets to DWTS this season, Lily!

gasp... I was offered tix for last week's American Idol, but I declined it cos I wanted to wait until a little closer to the end of their season. I was fortunate to go to 2 shows last season! So far, I haven't received any vouchers for DWTS. I was given vouchers for the finale show last season... so we'll see what happened this time around! I just hope I don't get notification while we're at Mammoth Mountain again!

Thing I've done this summer: Girl-friend weekend with 2 of the members here. Great hostesses. Loved our harbor outing and the view of the "middies'--I mean the ships! Billy Elliott on Broadway--wonderful show. It's headed out on tour. The kids in the show were amazing. Bridesmaids--this is a must see ladies. Take your girlfriends, your daughters, dau-in-laws and enjoy. I'm going again this week! Port Aransas, Texas annual Memorial Day get-together. The southern winds were so strong, we pretty much stayed out of the water. I have never seen waves that high in the Gulf of Mexico. ...more to come... And how is YOUR summer going?

Sounds like you have been having fun gasp Let's see: stripping wallpaper, wiping glue, repairing cracks, looking at colors...did I say Ted and I are redoing the master bedroom in our little house? It hasn't been touched in over 30 years. What colors for the room will coordinate with the hydrangeas, star jasmine and roses in the garden out though the french doors and casement windows in that room? We have 100 foot redwoods along that side of our lot, sitting above the rock wall. Sigh...when we retire and leave California I'll miss all this beauty but not the maintenance. Going to camp in Sequoia National Park and then over to Pinnacles National Monument to see if we can spot some condors. We had hoped to see the Perseid meteor shower but it's a full moon. Drat! On to Yellowstone National Park the first week in September. Our new skinsuits are in! Definitely my last since there won't be an ice rink in Bend, OR. But that's still a couple of years away.

Oh, my...
On July 4, 2010, I created the "It's America" slideshow video that you can see above in the header photos - it's just to the left of the Sochi 2014 countdown.
When I arranged the photos for the video, I had intentionally frozen the slideshow for a few seconds on the picture of a USA Gold Medalist holding back tears on the podium.
The line in the song at that moment was "It's a big flag flying in the summer wind over a fallen hero's grave."
At the time, I thought the combination of the song lyrics and the emotion in the athlete's face was perfect for the video.
I just watched that video again for the first time in a long time...
...and I got a shiver down my spine when I realized that the athlete in that photo was Jeret 'Speedy' Peterson, who committed suicide in July 2011 - roughly one year later.

WOw! I just dopped in on this thread while watching the Texas Rangers win the ALCS and heading for the World Series.
Yes, Lori--I love that video, and noticed the phrase you mentioned above the first time out. Chills for sure. Top of th 9th and teh Tigers need 11 runs to win. I think the Rangers have a lock on this.
We took my dad last year to the final game with the Yankees. He was 87 years young, and there was no better place to celebrate his birthday. Breidy joined us and snapped a pic of A-rod, on the last swing of the last out with the Rangers winning.
WHOOP! There they go--won it again. American League Champions! Nowitzki is there along with the Bush family and a variety of other local celebs. Thi is awesome--again! LOL Nolan Ryan--who owns the Rangers--is having to put his suit jacket on for the trophy presentation.
The boys of Summer have become the boys of Fall.

Not to be too redundant here, but if you know Josh Hamilton's story, then you'll understand why I think it is totally awesome that the Rangers use carbonated ginger ale to substitute for the usual champagned dousing. Class Act....from the management and the team to support Josh in that way.

Congrats to the Rangers! In recent years, they've been the bugaboo of my Angels and my Rally Monkey - but there's nothing to hate about 'em 'cept that they're not my ANGELS!
