Tamara Frederick was the only survivor of today's Repechage rounds, but was eliminated in the Semifinals (1500M). In the Mens 500M(1) Ryan Pivirotto WON the Mens B Final! Annnd (drumroll..........) JOHN-HENRY KRUEGER WON BRONZE IN THE MENS 1500M!!! The relay semifinals are coming up, but I - must - sleep.

I lied - as I was signing off, the USA Ladies were racing the relay, so I hung in there for a few minutes more. Unfortunately, they finished 4th and will be in the B Final. Katy Ralston was a DNS in the Repechage round - I was worried that she was hurt, but she did skate in the Relay...

Congratulations to John-Henry for his bronze medal and to Ryan for his win in the B final (and 5th place overall finish in that race.) It's great to see our men in the relay A final. Thanks for the reports, Lori.

Was anyone able to see the US Men's Relay Semi? Judging by the results there was quite a bit of drama with no time results, a DNF and a PEN.

Was anyone able to see the US Men's Relay Semi? Judging by the results there was quite a bit of drama with no time results, a DNF and a PEN. The new season have some new rules for short track speed skating, this result is one of the new rules. A player don't stand up after he fall, so the referee stopped the race, the race is restarted but the player can no continue to participate in the new competition. Through the video referee recognized Hungary player fouls, so the Hungarian team was sent off fouling the Chinese player. Although China team does not have the responsibility but also cannot continue the new race. Finally only two teams, so they directly to the relay final.

I've been trying to catch up - none of our USA skaters advanced out of today's Repechages, and it appears that Katy was also a DNS in the Repechages. I'm not sure what's going on, but I hope she's okay... with only 4 skaters in Shanghai (I heard Emily Scott is injured and didn't make the trip), I hope Katy can skate in that B Final. Our relay slot in the World Championships may be at stake, and we're hanging on by a thread! As it stands right now, we have Jessica in the 1000M B Final, Keith in the 500M(2) B Final, John-Henry in the 500M(2) A FINAL, and our Men's Relay Team in the A Final! BTW, dose - I have a photo that I'll post at some point on the China thread that I think you'll LOVE!!! (From World Cup 1)

World Cup Team Before the team left, a friend received a text from a skater at the SLC airport concerning this trip. Emily didn’t go because she isn’t skating well enough in her opinion. I heard lingering injuries were hampering her summer training too. I don’t know for sure because I don’t know their personal finances, but it might be better for some athletes to stay home. On this trip, some skaters didn’t receive per diems for daily necessities such as food even though they skated the times at the trials. I spat out my oatmeal because of laughter when my friend told me the identity of the equipment coach for this team. I bet he knows how to eat like a local in Korea. After some thought, I realized without Emily this is basically a SLI team. A cool thing from the text, Tamara is now sponsored by Scratch.com. This website is a computer modeling program at MIT geared toward teenagers. Scratch has over 7 million followers and their corporate sponsor is Lego, the plastic toy block maker. A website for USS to consider is www.dalecarnegie.com, How to Win Friends & Influence People. Instead of stiffing the athletes of their per diems, here is an idea. Ask the athletes if there is a way to use Scratch.com or other identities to increase the exposure of the sport. I can see it next year under the Christmas tree if USS had some imagination, Lego skaters with a track and the USS logo is on the box. Spin a wheel and advance the skaters width or length wise around the track. Or ask Tamara if she can design this idea as a computer game at Scratch.com. If I was USS, I would talk to Tamara before SLI places their logo on the box as they have done with this team.
