I've done some math based on the results from the trials and based on my calculations (this isn't official) the world cup skaters, based on their cumulative points from their 2 best distances, would be:
Men John-Henry Krueger Ryan Pivirotto Keith Carroll Jr. Cole Krueger Soo An Yoo Jake Powers (WC 1 & 2 only)
| Women Emily Scott Jessica Smith Kimberly Goetz Katherine Ralston Tamara Frederick Jacqueline Chen (WC 1 & 2 only)
|
I've also looked at all of the times from this weekends trials to figure out who met the qualifying standards, here's everyone who met each standard regardless of whether they were in the top 6 or not:
Women 500m: Jessica Smith, Kimberly Goetz, Emily Scott, Katherine Ralston Women 1000m: None Women 500m+1000m: Jessica Smith, Tamara Frederick Men 500m: Keith Carroll Jr, John-Henry Krueger, Jake Powers Men 1000m: Casey Mullarkey Men 500m+1000m: Cole Krueger, Ryan Pivirotto, John-Henry Krueger, Jake Powers, Aaron Tran
This means that all of the top 6 men except Soo An Yoo and all of the top 6 women except Jacqueline Chen met a qualifying standard to have their travel expenses paid for by US Speedskating.

Yes, sk8erfan - that's what I came up with too. I was a little confused about the #5 & #6 men - the regs say it's based on their best two (out of three) placements in the distances, eh? This appears to result in a tie between Yoo & Powers, with the tie-breaker going to Yoo based on the placement in the third distance. Was that your reasoning too? I also got the same result with regard to the 2 skaters who didn't make the times to gain funding for travel to the WC's. I haven't seen an official list - nor have I heard whether anyone declined their positions for any reason. In addition to sending only 5 skaters to WC's 3 & 4, I noticed that we're only sending 5 skaters to the Winter World Cups as well. Is this a new ISU quota, or are we simply electing to send 5 rather than 6?

You're right, it's very close between #5 and #6 for the men. Since final rankings are translated to points to determine overall classifications I interpreted "best finish place in two (2) out of three (3) distances" to mean that you'd only count the points from a skaters 2 best distances to determine the cumulative rankings (this is what they do in Canada). Therefore, I used the points values to determine my rankings, Yoo (256+164=420) vs Powers (205+205=410).
If it was based on what place they physically finished in then it would be a tie based on the top 2 distances (Yoo - 4th 500m & 6th 1000, Powers - 5th 500m & 5th 1000m) however wouldn't the tie breaker would go to Powers in that case since he finished 6th in the 1500m as opposed to Yoo's 7th in the 1500m.
I'm not exactly sure which way is the correct way of doing it.
The ISU quota is still 6 skaters for all of the world cups so it looks like US Speedskating is simply electing to send 5 rather than 6 to the Winter World Cups as well.

Oops, in my earlier post I meant to say that the tie-breaker would go to Powers based on the 3rd distance - hence, my confusion. If you looked at it on points it would be Yoo, on placement it would be Powers. Oh well - I suppose we'll know soon enough!

Ladies 1000M Heats I don't think any of the Ladies made the qualifying time for World Cup travel funding, though Jackie Chen came very close! Olympic Team members on the World Cup Team and THEY didn't make the qualifying time??? How high are they setting these standards? Wang Meng times? Humanly impossible times? I smell a rat. No doubt USS has set the times ridiculously high so they don't have to fund ANYTHING the skaters do. Send us money. NONE OF IT will go to what you think you're supporting. NONE of it will go to towards the athletes. But hey, all of us 'administrators' got a big fat paycheck out of it...

Most of the team DID make their times (though there were a couple who didn't - check sk8erfan's post upthread for those who made the times). When I'm at the rink I'm typing in a hurry - sorry for the lack of clarity in that post! I should have said no ADDITIONAL skaters made their times...
